Glenties Notes 21st September 2011

The Late Bridget Mc Dermott
The death took place, at her home on Sunday 11th September 2011 of Bridget Mc Dermott, Edeninfagh, Glenties. Her remains were brought to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Monday evening. Fr. Padraig Mc Dermott was the chief celebrant at the concelebrated Requiem Mass on Tuesday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast, Fr. Philip Daly, Fr. Francis Mc Loone and Fr. Denis Quinn were the assisting Priests. Family members did the Readings and Prayers of the Faithful. Burial took place in the Edeninfagh Graveyard. Bridget is survived by her daughter Rosemary, son-in-law, Jimmy Herron, grandson Connell and sister Margaret Crawford, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Pat predeceased her in 1993. Three sisters, Mary, Rose and Teresa also predeceased her. When Bridget (originally from Kilclooney, Portnoo) came to Edeninfagh she assisted her husband Pat, who was Sacristan in the Church of the Holy Family. When he died she took over as Sacristan, with the help of her daughter Rosemary and grandson Connell. Bridget received the Benemerenti Medal from the Pope in 2006 for her long service (over 50 years) to the Church. She was 98 years of age when she died.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the wife, family, relatives and friends of Bill Dawson, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties, who died on Tuesday 13th September 2011.

Sincere sympathy is extended to her husband, Glen and son, Alan, all other relatives and friends of Pat Hughes, Mullantyboyle, Glenties who died on Friday 16th September 2011.

Wedding Bells
Congratulations to Eileen Rafferty, Kilkenny, Glenties and David Stevens, England who were married in Glenties on Saturday 17th September 2011.

Tír Chonaill GAP CC – Annual Harvest Fair Cycle Challenge
Due to adverse weather conditions on Sunday 11th September we had to postpone our cycling event. We would like to apologise to everyone that turned up for the event but after talks with our marshals it was decided that it wasn’t safe to carry on with the cycle. We have now rescheduled the cycle for Sunday, 25th September. Registration is from 9 a.m. and start times are: 120k at 10 a.m. 60k at 10:25 a.m. and the 30k at 10:25 a.m. Hope to see a big turn out. Jiving Lessons
Jiving Lessons will be held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Monday 26th September at 8.30 p.m. Teacher is Seamus Melvin. Improve your dancing skills for the Debs.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday were – James Peak, Belfast won the Jackpot of €400. Sandra Moore, Donal Brennan, Teresa Mc Kelvey, Johnny Mc Cole, Rosaleen Gallagher, Ardara, Michael Langan, Bernie Fitzpatrick and Michael Doherty won € 100 each. Sandra Moore won € 60. Brigid Mc Cabe, Frosses, Mary Gallagher, The Glen, Marian Davison, Burtonport, Sandra Moore, Annie Mc Ginley, Meenaneary, Fiona Boyle, Bernadette Gallagher, Frosses, Anne Furey, Irene Langan, Nora Gallagher, Breege Gallagher, Rosbeg, Breege Roarty, James Sweeney Doyle, Maura Kilbane, Nancy Gallagher and Majella Dunnion won € 50 each.
