Glenties Notes 28th September 2012

All Ireland Champions:
Congratulations and Well Done to Glenties man, Jim Mc Guinness and his Team who won the 2012 All Ireland Final on Sunday 23rd September and bringing SAM back to Donegal. Thank you for bringing such Joy to Donegal people at home and throughout the world.

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to John and Christine Mc Cool, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties on the death last week of John’s uncle, Sammy Mc Cool, Ballybofey; also to all the relatives and friends.

Bingo:
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 18th September were – Rosaleen Gallagher, Ardara won the Jackpot of € 300; Nora Gallagher, Fidelma Burke, John Boyle, Charles Mc Carron, Pat Sweeney, Rosbeg, Cissie Meehan, Maria Boyle and Liza Coughlan won € 100 each; Dim Melly won € 60; Kathy Connell, Hazel Stanton, Michael Langan, Annie Boyle, Station Road, Mary Ward, Anne Bonner, Michelle Byrne, Pauline Mc Geehan, Kathleen Griffin and Geraldine Harkin won € 50 each; Michelle Mc Brearty, Peter Duffy, Ann Mc Dyre, Tia Maguire, Bernadette

Glenties Community T V:
Those who watch programmes on BBC1, BBC2 and ITV should note that these channels will be switched off in Northern Ireland on the 10th October and as a result, no reception will be received here after that date. Please note that this does not apply to Channel 4. In order to get these channels it is recommended that people should arrange the change over as soon as possible.

Tai Chi Qigong Classes:
Learn Tai Chi Qigong exercises with Charles Shovlin; classes starting in Glenties Community Centre on Wednesday 3rd October from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.; adults only. Contact Charles for details at 9551596 or email charlesshovlin@hotmail.com

Jiving Classes:
If you would like to learn to Jive, Tone Up and have a night’s fun get on your dancing shoes and come to our Jiving classes every Monday night beginning on 1st October in the Highlands Hotel 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. Young experienced Tutor will teach Jiving, Waltzing and advanced moves; all ages are welcome. It is advisable to wear light clothing. The cost is € 5 per night. For more information contact 087 7086567. Proceeds are in aid of Iniskeel (Glenties / Fintown) Community Games.

Dancing Classes:
Dancing classes for beginners will start in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Wednesday 10th October from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. and every Wednesday night from that on.

Glenties & Dungloe Sewerage Schemes:
Cllr.Terence Slowey welcomes the announcement at today’s Glenties Electoral Area Meeting that the Glenties and Dungloe Sewerage Schemes have now gone to tender with the completed tender documentation to be back with Donegal County Council by October 18th 2012. Cllr. Slowey was also told by Donegal County Council that the projected timeframe for the award of the Contract was the first Quarter of 2013 with the Construction Phase taking 18 months. This is great news of the people of Glenties and Dungloe who have waited a long time for this project to be delivered. According to Councillor Slowey this is the second Design, Build, Operate (DBO) contract which will be awarded in Donegal for the provision of sewerage facilities. The contract will involve the Construction of Main Transfer Pumping Stations and Wastewater Treatments Works in both towns. The Councillor went on to say that the works will include all pipe work between the Pumping Station and the Treatment Works and the associated outfalls for both treatment systems. There will be an outlying Pump Station on the Mill Road, Dungloe and the rehabilitation and cleaning of the existing pipe network in both towns. The DBO Contract will also include a 20 year Operational Phase by the successful Contractor. Cllr. Slowey said he expected the work to be completed in both Glenties and Dungloe and both systems operational by the end of 2014.

Tidy Town Draw:
The first prize of 2 Tickets for the Donegal V Mayo All Ireland Final went to James Callaghan, Fintra; 2nd prize – Framed A. Thompson Jersey, sighed by Donegal Team was won by Mary Campbell, Main Street, 3rd prize – Steak Night in Highlands Hotel for two was won by Francis Quinn, Mill Road, Glenties; 4th prize – Baby’s Cot Blanket – Adrian Mc Geehan, Fintown and 5th prize – Bottle of Whiskey – Mary Mc Geehan, Ardara.
