O’Donnell / Byrne Wedding
On Friday 25th September Columba O’Donnell and Bríd Byrne were married in Knock. Fr. Mc Ateer, Carrick officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Columba is a son of Maggie and the late Neil O’Donnell, Meenahalla, Glenties and Bríd is a daughter of Mary and the late Brendan Byrne, Carrick. Her mother gave the bride away and her friend Mary Barron and niece Emer Breslin attended her. The bestman was Connell O’Donnell, nephew of the groom and bestman was Darragh Breslin, nephew of the bride. Bríd Marie Gillespie and Megan Breslin, nieces of the bride were flowergirls. Readings were by Caroline Byrne, sister of the bride and Emer Duffy. Gerry, Tara and Marguerite O’Donnell, Marcella Byrne and Catherine Breslin read Prayers of the Faithful. The mothers of the bride and groom, Mary Byrne and Maggie O’Donnell brought the Gifts to the Altar. A Reflection was read by Stephen Brennan. The music and singing was by Una Nolan and Orla Doherty. Psalm was by Kevin Breslin. The reception was held in The Breaffy House Hotel, Castlebar and the honeymoon is being spent in North Africa.
Wedding Bells
Congratulations to Ciaran Bonner, Straboy and Marie Conroy who were married in Co. Laois on Saturday 19th September.
Concert of Musical Hits
Rathfarnham Concert Band is making a welcome return to the area and is sure to delight children and adults alike with a concert entitled “A Night at the Shows” in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Saturday 17th October. There will also be an enjoyable introduction to the instruments, both wind and brass, given by the conductor Vincent Kennedy. Vincent is an internationally acclaimed composer and this year is also working with the Donegal Youth Orchestra. Glenties Brass Band is hosting this concert during a busy year for the local group, with eight junior members from the Ardara and Glenties area now taking lessons, as well as a busy playing schedule for the senior band members. Entrance to the concert is €5 for adults and €2 for children.
Youth Club
Registration for the Youth Club takes place for 1st – 3rd years on Friday 9th October at 8.00 p.m. in the Community Centre. Parents must register anyone wishing to attend for the coming year. Fees must be paid on the night. €15.00 per child and €25.00 per family. Places are limited.
Cycling
Anyone interested in going for a cycle please meet outside the old Fire Station this Sunday 11th October at 9.00 a.m. All are welcome. Helmets must be worn.
Collection
The Friends of Letterkenny General Hospital will hold their Annual Church Gate Collection before the Masses next weekend Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th October.
Regional Employment Service
The Regional Employment Service can help long term unemployed to get back in full time employment / identify training opportunities, prepare C.V., fill out application forms and much more. If you wish to avail of the service the Outreach Officer will be in the Community Centre, Glenties today Thursday 8th October from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. No appointment is necessary. For further information ring Helen or Mary at 9128010. This Service is free and totally confidential.

The organisers of the Charity Walk, in aid of the Kidney Dialysis Unit, Letterkenny Hospital, thank everyone who took part in the walk and those who gave donations. The amount collected was €8,400. Thank you for your support.
Nan Gallagher
Nan Gallagher Derries, Glenties died unexpectedly at her home on Thursday 24th September 2009. Having been taken to Letterkenny that evening her remains came home on Friday and were brought to St. Connell’s Church on Saturday evening. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00a.m. on Sunday. Readings were by grandchildren Orlaith Mc Gee and Lisa Gallagher. Her other grandchildren Kieran and Michelle Carr, Gavin and Jason Doherty, Stephen Meally and Kevin Mc Gee read Prayers of the Faithful. Her daughter and son-in-law, Dolores and Michael Carr brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell and Sinead Finn. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Nan is survived by her son, Joe, wife Mary and their family, Lisa, Joseph and Hugh, who live next door, daughters, Eilis, Rita, Dolores, Teresa and Francis, sister, Mamie, brother, Paddy, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Hughie predeceased her in 2001. Her sister Kitty and a baby brother (Gerry), also predeceased her.
Sally Mc Dyer
The death took place unexpectedly on Thursday 24th September 2009 of Sally (Sarah) Mc Dyer, Derries, Glenties while visiting her friend Nan Gallagher at her home. Having also been taken to Letterkenny that evening, her remains were brought home on Friday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday afternoon. Before Mass, items of importance in Sally’s life were brought to the Altar by grandniece, Kirsty Mc Dyer and grandnephews, Nathan Mc Dyer and Joshua Duffy and neighbours Ellie and Leah Mc Innes. Fr. Shane Gallagher celebrated Requiem Mass at 1.00 p.m. Readings were by grandnieces, Keara Nichols and Sorcha Keane Breslin. Prayers of the Faithful were read by Lindsey Sherman, grandniece, Cathal Keane Breslin, grandnephew, David Mc Dyre, nephew and Brenda Breslin, niece. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by grandnephews Joel Breslin and Ronan Breslin. Music and singing was by Anne Mc Dyer, young neighbours and some of the youth choir. Burial took place in Kilraine Graveyard. A eulogy was read at the graveside by Sally’s niece Rosaleen Boyle. Sally is survived by brothers, Packie, Thomas J. and James, sisters, Nan and Barbara, nieces, nephews, grandnieces / nephews, great grandnieces / nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. She was predeceased by a baby brother (Connell), three nephews, three nieces and a grandniece.
