Glenties Notes on November 6th 2003

The death took place in Harbour Lights Nursing Home on Wednesday 29th October 2003 of Kathleen Connaghan, Lacklea, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home on Thursday and to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Saturday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings and Psalm were by Kathleen’s grandchildren, Anne, Patrick and Mary Browne. Burial took place in Edeninfagh Graveyard. She is survived by her son, Jimmy, daughter, Mary Kate, grandchildren, son-in-law, Paddy Browne, brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Annie Connaghan, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband, John, who died on 20th October, predeceased her by just nine days.

Mary Anne Byrne, Drimnasillagh, Glenties died after a short illness, in Killybegs Community Hospital on Thursday 30th October 2003. Her remains were brought to her son’s home on Friday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Fr. Patrick Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the New Graveyard, Glenties. Mary Anne is survived by her only son Patrick, grandchildren, Peter and Marion, daughter-in-law Mary Kate, nephews, nieces other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Peter predeceased her nineteen years ago and her brothers, Con and Pat Mc Dermott and sister, Cicily Mc Dermott also predeceased her. Mary Anne celebrated her 92nd Birthday last May.

Congratulations to Aoife Mc Donnell, St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, and Glen Road, Glenties, who was the winner in the Over 15s Donegal Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships, which were held recently in Buncrana. Another medal for Aoife to put with her All Ireland Ladies Football Medal.

Congratulations also to Eoin Wade, St. Columba’s Comprehensive School, who came second in the Over 15s Donegal Secondary Schools Cross Country Championships in Buncrana.

Lucille Ward and John Kelly were married in the Church of Perpetual Succour, Glenfin on Saturday 25th October 2003. Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir C.C. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Lucille is a daughter of Charlie and Kathleen Ward, Buncrubog, Glenties and John is a son of Francis and the late Jack Kelly, Clones, Co. Monaghan. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Carina Ward and Maeve Bell, friends, Kathleen Bonar and Aimee Mc Gonnell attended her. Michael Kelly, brother of the groom was bestman. Another brother, Colin and his nephew, Dermot Mc Dermott, and the bride’s nephew Adam Langan were groomsmen. Jake Ward, nephew of the bride was pageboy. Readings were by Rose Langan, sister of the bride and Christine Mc Dermott sister of the groom. Ryan Ward, nephew of the bride, Shannon Kelly and Ciara Mc Dermott, nieces of the groom, Miriam Ward, sister of the bride, Pat and Liam Ward, brothers of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. Aishling Mc Dermott, niece of the groom read a Reflection after Communion. The reception was held in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey and the honeymoon was spent in the Canaries.

Congratulations to Noreen and Kieran Kelly, Derries, Glenties on the birth recently in Letterkenny Hospital, of their first child, a baby boy.
