Glenties Notes on October 13th 2005
Congratulations to our senior team on winning the senior championship and for the first time in the history of the club bringing the Dr. MaGuire Cup to Glenties. It is really a great achievement and great credit is due, first of all to the players, and to everyone connected in any way with the team. For the past number of weeks the town and surrounding areas have been bedecked with blue and white bunting and flags, banners, cars and vans painted blue and white and placards with ‘Good Luck’ messages, which no doubt will be around for a while yet. On Sunday evening when the cars started to come from the game there was a constant blowing of horns as they passed through the town. The team arrived back about 8.30p.m. They walked up the street with a Garda car leading the way, a big crowd following them and another big crowd waiting to welcome them. Bonfires lit up the route for the team and the cavalcade of cars, which accompanied them on their journey home. The joy and excitement in the town is really something.
