Matt Mc Granaghan from Castlefin in Co. Donegal has been playing the fiddle since the age of 8. He received lessons for about a year, and from then on taught himself. Although his early musical influences were the great Irish players, Matt’s interests soon expanded to a variety of styles, including Shetland, Bluegrass and Classical and lately also Latin American and Jazz. He has performed at the Shetland Fiddle and Accordion Festival in 2002 and 2003 and has been invited back for 2005. Matt has given performances throughout Ireland as a traditional player and in the past year as well, has performed at the Harvey’s Point Summer Cabaret. In Chicago he has shared the stage with great players such as John Daly, Tommy Peoples and Dennis Cahill. In 2004 Matt formed his own 22-piece orchestra which has been receiving standing ovations wherever they performed. Matt has released two CD’s: ‘Flames before the Fire’ in 1999 which included two of his own compositions and ‘Goldfiddle’ in 2003 – which features three pieces that he composed himself. This will be a wonderful opportunity to hear Matt Mc Granaghan perform Solo with accompaniment on piano by Gordon Speer from Co. Tyrone. For anyone who appreciates an eclectic selection of music, this is an evening not to be missed!
