Naomh Conaill Notes 19th April 2010

Well done to the Donegal U21 team on reaching the All Ireland Final and once more Jim, Leo, Dermott and Ciaran did the club and county proud. They now meet the Dubs in the final which will bring back memories of 92 and we hope we can get the same result.

This Saturday night the club hosts the eagerly awaited Strictly Come Dancing in The Highlands Hotel and it promises to be one of the highlights of the year as the dancers have been putting in a lot of hard work and long hours rehearsing for the night and we wish them all the best of luck. The stars of the show are Alana Molloy, Bridget Kee, Grannie Boyle, Brid Mc Gill, Fiona Quinn, Brenda Reid, Michelle Flannery, Helen Mc Nelis, Seamus Mc Kelvey, Billy McInnes, Douglas Gallagher, Anthony Thompson, Martin Mc Dyer, Kieran Kennedy, Stephen McGrath and Declan Bonner. The tickets sold out very early on and admittance on the night is by TICKET only. There will be Disco afterwards and admittance is 10 Euro. There will be a meeting of everyone that is helping out on the night in The Highlands on Friday at 7pm.

There will be excuetive meeting on Thursday 22nd April at 9pm in the clubhouse. The monthly club meeting will be on Monday night at 9pm in the clubhouse.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Teresa Cunningham, Glenties and Jane and William Cunningham, Ardara. The numbers drawn were 3,18,20,23. The jackpot now stands at 5,900 Euro.

The seniors picked up their first league points of the year after a 7 point victory at home to Termon last Sunday and the reserves kept up their very impressive start to the season beating Termon 1-12 to 0-8. Both teams are due to play St Eunans this Sunday in Letterkenny.

The 3rd team unbeaten run came to a end when they were beat by Aodh Ruadh in Ballyshannon last Friday evening.

The Minors play their first league game at home to Ardara this Friday at 7pm.

The U16s beat Naomh Brid in Glenties last Friday 1-6 to 0-7. They are now through to the Regional league final where they will meet Four Masters which is due to be played on 30th April

Our U12s played host to Termon in a Southern Board sponsored U12 Go Games exhibition match last Sunday following the Senior game. The Minor Board wish to sincerely thank the parents who made the tea and sandwiches for all in attendance.

Regarding the games themselves the general agreement of those present, coaches, parents and more importantly the older players was very negative indeed and it is difficult to understand why other counties can incorporate the small sided Go Games format at U12 level into mini league structures (which is recommended by Croke Park for this age), yet in this county we are running it in a totally aimless manner. It is going to be a very difficult task indeed for coaches to keep our eleven and twelve year olds motivated and interested in our national games. The U13s had a very comprehensive victory away to St Nauls last Monday evening. There next game is at home to Aodh Ruadh on Monday 3rd May.

Our first scheduled U12 Go Games is away to Ardara, this Monday 26th.

The U12 girls have their first blitz in Mountcharles this Saturday. Bus leaving the clubhouse at 10.15am sharp. The Minors had a good victory against Glen last Tuesday while the senior ladies lost at home to Convoy last Sunday. The Ladies church gate collection raised a grand total of 1,091 Euro.
