Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 21st February 2011
Frankie Kennedy was the narrow winner of last Sunday’s Open, carding 38 points to win by a point from James Keeney. Frankie was consistent for most of the round, with just a couple of blemishes threatening to furrow the brow at times. The birdie at the last proved the difference in the end for the Killybegs man, but James can console himself with the knowledge that he was one of only two people to break par.
Tony Gildea celebrated the latest anniversary of his birth in fine style, pipping Hugh Francis Shovlin to the laurel garland in Wednesday’s Open. Twenty points on the front nine was a fine start and the subsequent birdie at the Hemmersbach’s Gap sealed a fine performance from the Glenties lad.
An insurance scheme for golfers is available in the clubhouse through Golfsure Insurance Company and coverage commences on March 1st. The annual fee is just 20 euro, so contact the Pro Shop to add your name to the long list of golfers who have already subscribed.
Narin and Portnoo enjoyed a rare victory over Gaoth Dobhair in the latest Gaeltacht League encounter last Saturday. Home advantage was key, as were excellent performances from the club’s form players resulting in a six-four victory. Hats off to the team captain, Michael Naughton who has an eye firmly on silverware this season!
