The Ardara Society hold a qualifier event for the Rider Cup this Saturday, May 15th, with the tee booked from 8.30a.m.

Our Pierce Purcell side excelled in qualifying in first place at Omagh last Sunday. Patrick Boyle picked a team full of experience and it reaped dividends on the day, with all pairings contributing to a fine team performance. Joe Conneely and Michael Naughton were the leading pair on the day, going round in 12 over, a score beaten by no pairing from any other club. The other qualifiers on Sunday were Killymoon, Newtownstewart and the hosts, Omagh. The lads now face the latter on neutral turf in the first matchplay round and they can be quietly confident in their ability to progress further. The team on Sunday was: Bart Whelan & Sean Whyte; Tom O’Donnell & Vinnie Gallagher; Joe Conneely & Michael Naughton; Kevin Harley & Hughie Moy; James Keeney & Alan Elliott.

Conal Eamonn Gillespie was at it again last Wednesday, winning the Open by a shot from Rab Brady. The Glen golfer is a steady operator and is always hovering around the 30 point mark, such is his consistency. A par-par-par start was ideal, and after turning in 19 points, Conal achieved four three-pointers in the next five holes to race into a winning position, finishing eventually on 40 points.

Kieran Gallagher romped to victory in the Medal competition sponsored by Brennan’s Bread on Sunday. The Narin golfer was level twos after a tough nine holes, but went for it on the way home, dropping only one shot to par and achieving eight pars en route. He now qualifies for the Golfer of the Year matchplay stage to played later in the year.
