FIRST MASS
Newly ordained Fr. Adrian Gavigan, Glen Road, Glenties celebrated his First Mass of Thanksgiving in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday 3rd July 2000 at 7.00 p.m. There was a very big congregation and a large number of priests in attendance. Some student friends of Adrian’s were there to help him out on this great occasion. Fr. Adrian gave his First Blessing to a large number of people after Mass. A Parish Social was held afterwards in the Highlands Hotel.

THE LATE C. KEENEY
The death took place at his home, on Thursday 29th June 2000 of Connell Keeney, Tullyhoniver, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. assisted by Fr. Shaun Haugh and Deacon Adrian Gavigan celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by son, Conal and son-in-law, Dermot Mc Hugh. Grandchildren, Sandra Keeney, Roger Gildea, Stephen Mc Hugh, Kevin Mc Hugh, Diane Keeney and Christopher Branningan read Prayers of the Faithful. Connell’s eight daughters and son John brought the Gifts to the Altar. Singing and music were by granddaughter, Amanda McGuigan, grandson, Barry Keeney, and friends, Siobhan Mc Elhinney, John Mc Intyre, Francis Cunningham and John Byrne. Burial took place in the New Cemetery. Fr. Prendergast and Rev. Adrian Gavigan officiated at the graveside. Sincere sympathy is extended to Connell’s wife, Maggie, four sons, John, Killybegs, James, Kilraine, Conal, Narin Road, Kevin, Tullyhoniver, eight daughters, Cathy, Breda, Anne, England, Bernadette, The Rock, Sally, Ardconnell, Nora, Tullyhoniver, Ursula, Kilraine, Carmel, Manorcunningham, sisters, Mena, Nan, Mill Road, Sally, Nora, Mamie, England, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Connell’s brother, John predeceased him in 1997.

THE LATE N. BRESLIN
The sudden death took place at his home of Neil Breslin, Glen Road, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday for Requiem Mass which was concelebrated by Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir, newly ordained Fr. Adrian Gavigan, Fr. Joseph Briody and Fr. Mackey. Readings were by daughter, Maureen and daughter-in-law, Edel and Prayers of the faithful were read by granddaughter, Brenda and Maureen’s husband, Richard. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place in the New Cemetery. Fr. Adrian and Fr. Nigel officiated at the graveside. The Fire Brigade, of which Neil was a member, provided a Guard of Honour outside the Fire Station when the remains were brought to the church and all the way to the graveyard. Fianna Fail members also formed a Guard of Honour. Neil, a native of Lifford came to Glenties in the sixties when the Comprehensive School was being built. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife, Breid and family, Gerry, Michael, Hugh, Maureen, Breda, Catherine and Teresa, brother, sisters, grandchildren, daughters-in-law, sons-in-law, and all his relatives and friends.

THE LATE P. MULHERN
The death took place on Wednesday 5th July 2000 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar, of Patrick Mulhern, Lugnagillew, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home for waking. Requiem Mass was celebrated in the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh and burial took place in Edeninfagh cemetery. Sincere sympathy is extended to his wife, Bridie, three daughters, sister and other relatives and friends.

WEDDING
Congratulations to local T.D. Thomas Gildea, Straboy, Glenties and Eilish Hegarty, Meenalargan, Glenties who were married in St. Michael’s Church, Creeslough on Wednesday 5th July 2000.

GOLDEN WEDDING
Congratulations to Josie and Breid Boyce, Mill Road, Glenties who celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last weekend.

U/12 COUNTY B FINAL
Congratulations to the U/12 football team who won the County B Final against Convoy on Saturday last in Donegal.

SYMPATHY
Sincere sympathy is extended to Rose Kennedy, Meenahalla on the death of her mother, Catherine O’Donnell, Termon. Sincere sympathy is extended to Josie Houston, Mary Mc Hugh, Bridie and Teresa Mc Mullin on the death of their nephew Francis Mc Veigh, in a drowning accident in Philadelphia. Sincere sympathy is extended to Roisin Breslin, Derries on the death of her nephew, Michael Quinn, Cork as a result of a car accident.
