Naomh Conaill Club Notes 12th February 2012

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 1,11,28 and 29. Two prizes of €50 went to John Boyle Knockletragh and Will MacInnes Kilraine. Next weeks jackpot is €5,300.

Hard luck to our U21s who were beaten by Ballinderry 1-07 to 1-10 in the Ulster Club Championship quarter final on Sunday.

The clubs 200+ club is starting shortly. The cost is €10 per month or €100 for the year. Anyone wishing to join can contact any club officer.

There will be a one day refresher occupational first aid course in the clubhouse on Saturday 23rd February from 9.30-4.30pm. The cost is €35. Anyone interested in doing the course is asked to contact Rosaleen Doherty 087 6235023 ASAP.

Membership for Naomh Conaill 2013 is now due. Adult €40, youth €20(for families with a number of children its €20 each for the first two children and €10 for each additional child). There is also €100 membership which includes membership and entry into the weekly lotto. A registration/membership night will take place this Friday 15th February in the clubhouse between 5.30and 6.30pm. On Tuesday 19th February in Aras Sheain Bhain Fintown between 8 and 9pm.

This Saturday Las Vegas comes to the Highlands Hotel Glenties, come along for a night on the Vegas strip. Tickets €20 which includes buffet, live music, champagne reception, disco and complimentary money for the casino. Doors open at 8pm. Tickets available from club members or pay at the door.

Good luck to our U21 team, their manager and mentors in the County Final this Sunday when they take on St Eunans in Convoy at 1.00pm.

Club merchandise is now available in The Inniskeel Co-Op Glenties and Maxwells Ballinamore. This includes jerseys, jackets, hoddies, t-shirts and kitbags.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto.The numbers drawn were 6,11,14 and 21. Two prizes of €50 went to John Molloy Mully Dance and Philip Gallagher Station Road. Next weeks jackpot is €4,300.

The final draw in this years 200 club took place at the bingo in the Highlands Hotel last Tuesday. 1st Prize €500 Eoin Waide Main Street. 5 prizes of €100 each Mary Thompson Ard Mc Gill, Leo Mc Loone Main Street, Annmarie Brennan Ardara, Martin Doherty Meenahalla and Daniel Roog Meenahalla.

In the clubs Last man standing there was only 2 people still in it last Saturday James O’Malley and Ciaran Thompson. Ciaran picked Arsenal who were beaten so James was the Last Man Standing after picking Liverpool. James wins €300.

The Minor board AGM will take place this Friday 7th December in the Clubhouse at 8.00pm. This is a very important meeting where underage managers for 2013 will be appointed. Anyone interested in helping out in any way is asked to attend.

Well done to the U21 team who are through to the County final after beating Cloughaneely in the semi final 1-11 to 0-04.

Well done to the Donegal Vocational school on retaining their Ulster title. Congratulations to the Naomh Conaill lads involved Seosamh Mc Kelvey, Martin Regan and Kevin Mc Gettigan.

The minor boards AGM will take place on Friday 7th December in the Clubhouse at 8.00pm. This is a very important meeting where underage managers for the coming year will be appointed. Anyone interested in helping out in any way is asked to attend.

Commiserations to the U13 team who were beaten by the narrowest of margins 1 point in the county final by St Eunans. Naomh Conaill 3-05 3-06 St Eunans.

Well done to the U21 team who are through to the county semi final after they overcame Letterkenny Gaels in the quarter final last Saturday in Convoy. Naomh Conaill 0-10 2-03 Letterkenny Gaels. They now play Cloughaneely in the semi final this Sunday 2nd December at 12.30pm in O’Donnell park Letterkenny.

The senior team played their last league game of the year on Sunday in Towney where they overcame Kilcar 1-04 to 3-05.

The Naomh Conaill Ladies presentation night for all underage girls will take place in the Highlands Hotel on Sunday 2nd December at 7.00pm. This was a very special year for our underage girls as a large number of girls have three county medals to receive. Our U13 girls won the County league, U14 won the County feile and the county league. It would be appreciated if as many as possible could come along on the night to show their support. There will be a few special guests on the night.

The clubs AGM which was due to take place this Friday night has been postponed until Friday 14th December at 8.00pm in the clubhouse.

The U21’s play Letterkenny Gaels this Saturday 24th November at 2pm in MacCumhaill Park.

Last weekends Division One Reserve and Senior league game between Kilcar and Naomh Conaill was called off due to the pitch being unplayable. It is now fixed for this Sunday 25th. The reserve game is at 1.00pm followed by the senior game at 2.15pm.

Glenties Notes 14th November 2012

Iniskeel Community Games (Glenties / Fintown):
We are looking for volunteers to help manage or train the young boys and girls for team and individual events in next year’s activities e.g.-Basketball, Gaelic Football, Soccer, Quiz, Dance, Music and Drama etc. In 2012 fifty seven medals were won in our area, Chairman, Darragh Gallagher won the ‘Youth Volunteer Award’ and we also won ‘The New Area Award.’ We would like to build on this achievement in 2013. The Community Games give the young people an opportunity to take part in, and compete in a wide rang of activities at County, Provincial and National levels. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Darragh on 087 2121036 or Shauna on 087 7080567 so that we can organise for next year as soon as possible. We would like to thank all those who helped out in2012, Martin Regan, Seanie Mc Devitt, James Gallagher, the parents and committee members.

Confirmation:
The Sacrament of Confirmation will be administered in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday12th May 2013 at 11.00 a.m.

The Glenties Parish Social:
The Annual Parish Social for all the Senior Citizens of the area will take place on Sunday 2nd December at 3.00 p.m. in the Highlands Hotel. The support of the Public would be very much appreciated from 5.30 p.m. onwards.

Draw:
The Glenties Community Centre Committee announce a Draw to help with the funding of the renovations. Lines for the draw can be purchased in most businesses in the town. 1st Prize is a 32″ HD Ready Freeview LCD TV; 2nd Prize is a € 100 Christmas Hamper; 3rd Prize is a € 50 Christmas Drinks Hamper; 4th Prize is a € 30 Meal Voucher for the Highlands Hotel; and 5th Prize is a Bottle of Whiskey. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

World Remembrance Day for Victims of Road Traffic Accidents:
The 11 a.m. Mass on next Sunday -18th November will be celebrated for this intention.

Two Hand & Céilí Classes:
Two Hand & Céilí Classes with Connie Mc Kelvey will take place in the Highlands Hotel, every Wednesday night from 8 p.m. – 10 p.m. Beginners welcome.

Collections:
The Molloy Family, Station Road, Glenties would like to say a Big Thank You to everyone who gave to the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind collection on the 6th October last. The amount collected was € 858. Thank You.

The “Self – Help for Africa” collection which was taken up on October 20th amounted to € 640. Thank you to all who supported this worthy cause.

The U13’s were victorious by 0-10 to 0-08 over neighbours Ardara in the Division One Southern Regional Final played in Glenties last Sunday morning. This was a very exciting and tense affair with both teams serving up some good football for the large crowd. Ardara led at the interval by the narrowest of margins 0-06 to 0-05 but the boys in blue had the better of exchanges in the second period and despite late Ardara pressure held out for a two point winning margin. They now play MacCumhaills this weekend in the County Semi Final. See clubs website for details.

The club,U14 management and players wish to sincerely thank Eileen Mc Dyre of Raudon Teoranta once again for her very generous sponsorship of new Adidas tops for the U14 panel.

The minor team was beaten by Kilcar in the Regional Final last Friday night. Naomh Conaill 0-06 to 2-11 Kilcar. On Wednesday 14th November they play St Eunans in the County Semi Final in MacCumhaill park at 7.45pm.

Glenties Notes 7th November 2012

The Late Michael Mc Guigan:
The death took place in Rotterdam, Holland on Saturday 27th October of Michael Mc Guigan, formerly of Ardconnell, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home in Kilraine on Thursday 1st November and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday afternoon for Requiem Mass at 1 p.m., celebrated by Fr. Pat Prendergast. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. O’ Donnell. Burial took place afterwards in the local Graveyard. He is survived by his wife, Enike, step-son Reuben, grandchildren, Nathan and Megan, brother, Patrick, Ardconnell, two sisters, Anne and Maureen, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Swimming Lessons in Ballyshannon:
A new 8 – week term of swimming lessons will start on Tuesday 13th November in Ballyshannon Pool. All children from the Glenties, Ardara and Portnoo areas are welcome as the bus will pick up children from these areas. Please enrol by Friday 9th November 2012.

A Fashion Show & X – Factor Extravaganza will be held in the Highlands Hotel on this Friday – 9th November at 8 p.m. in aid of Glenties Day Centre / Alzheimer’s Day. Your support would be greatly appreciated for the continuation of this vital service to the Local Community.

Collections:
The Collection for the Friends of Letterkenny General Hospital, taken up recently, amounted to € 626.00. Many thanks to all those who supported this cause.

The I.S.P.C.C. collection which was taken up recently in Edeninfagh amounted to € 119.60. Many thanks to all those who supported this cause.

Glenties and Dungloe Sewerage Schemes:
On behalf of Seamus Rodgers, Michael Conaghan T.D. asked Mr. P. Hogan, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, the position regarding the proposed sewerage schemes in respect of Glenties and Dungloe – Reply on 23rd October 2012 – “The Dungloe and Glenties Sewerage Schemes, which are to advance jointly, are included in the Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2013 among the list of contracts in Donegal to start in the period 2010 – 2013. My Department has approved the tender documents for the work, which involves the provision of new wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations and sewers in Dungloe and Glenties, and I understand that Donegal County Council is currently advancing the combined scheme through the tender process.”

Glenties Notes 2nd November 2012

Wedding Bells:
Congratulations to Charlotte Dooley and Dave Tierney who were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 20th October 2012. Charlotte (Charlie) is a daughter of Lena and Tony Dooley, The Rock, Glenties and Dave is from Belfast. The reception was held in The Highlands Hotel, Glenties.

Straboy Oral Hearing:
The oral hearing into the Straboy wind farm proposal concluded on Thursday 25th October 2012 after 6 days of evidence and cross questioning. The Inspector will now make his report and forward this to An Bord Pleanála for formal consideration. No proposed decision date has been provided by the Board. The Glenties Wind Farm Information Group would like to express their thanks for all the support, financially and morally, received during the process, and advise that contributions promised, can now be forwarded to members of the group. The group would like to thank all those who gave evidence, cross questioned and assisted behind the scenes. The group will still take contributions to help defray the substantial costs associated with the oral hearing. These can be made to: Bank of Ireland, Main Street, Glenties, Account No: 97730412. Novena of Masses for the Dead:
Every Mass from Friday 2nd November until Saturday 10th November, in St. Connell’s Church Glenties, will be offered for those who are named in the Dead Lists. Special envelopes, containing Dead Lists, are available at the door of the Church. The completed lists should be returned by Friday 2nd November to be placed on the Altar for the Masses. Please do not leave envelopes with donations for Masses in or around the church. The envelopes will be kept in a secure place between Masses.
