Glenties Notes 30th March 2011

First Child
Congratulations to Evelyn and Charlie McManus, Ramelton on the birth of their baby daughter (Seárlait). Evelyn is a daughter of Michael and Mary Ward, Straboy, Glenties.

Winner
Congratulations to 16-year-old Riaghan O’Callaghan, who was the overall winner in the final of the ‘Borders Got Talent’ competition held recently in the Carlton Hotel, Belleek. Riaghan wrote the song and accompanied herself on guitar. She is a daughter of Tony and Angela O’Callaghan, Kilraine, Glenties.

All Ireland Champions
Congratulations to the Donegal Team who won the Vocational Schools All-Ireland Final against Cork on St. Patrick’s Day in Galway. Four members of our local Naomh Conaill Club were on the team, John O’Malley (Captain), Mark Gallagher, Glenties, Jason Campbell and Seamus Ellis from Fintown. Well done lads.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 22nd March were – Denise Campbell won the Jackpot of € 400. Anne Kennedy, Dungloe, Brenda Reid. Rosemary Whelan, Vera Breslin, Hazel Staunton, Mary Gallagher, Fiona Gallagher, Fiona Gallagher and Josie Gallagher won € 100 each. Christine Mc Cool, Kathy Connell, Ann Byrne, Patricia Molloy, Kitty Ward, Emer Doherty, Eileen Gallagher, Johnny O’ Donnell and Patricia White won € 50 each. Nora Gallagher and Frankie Gallagher won € 25 each.

Penitential Service & Ceremony of Light
The Penitential Service & Ceremony of Light for Confirmation Children, their parents and sponsors will take place in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday 31st March at 8.00 p.m. There will be an opportunity for confession, immediately after the Service, for those attending.

Scoil Mhuire First Holy Communion Children
There will be a Penitential Service for Scoil Mhuire First Holy Communion Children and their Families on Friday 1st April in the Small Chapel at 8.00 p.m. The Penitential Service will be followed by First Confession in the Big Chapel.

 

Naomh Conaill Notes 16th March 2011

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 17,18,24,27. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Kieran Burke and Paula Hegarty, Glenties.The jackpot now stands at 5,700 Euro.

The recovened club AGM was held last Friday in the clubhouse and the following officers were elected for 2011. President Leo McLoone, Chairman Peter Mc Kelvey, Vice Chairman Poggy O’Donnell, Secretary Seamus O’Malley, Asst Secretary Ian Molloy, Finace Committee Patsy Furey, John Molloy, John Mc Swiggan, Brian Carr, Registra David Kelch, PRO Eunan McGlinchey, Oifige na Gaeilge (to be filled at next excuetive meeting).

Club membership is now due and must be paid before 31st March. Adult membership is 30 Euro and underage is 10 Euro. There is also the 100 Euro membership which includes membership and entry into the weekly lotto. Membership forms are availble in McGlincheys. There will be a registration night in the clubhouse this Saturday 19th March between 6pm and 7pm and next Wednesday 23rd March between 7.30pm and 8.30pm and also on Saturday 26th March between 6pm and 7pm. There will be a registration night in Fintown next week,date and venue to be confirmed.

There will be a minor board meeting in the clubhouse next Monday night at 8.30pm.

Good luck to John, Seamus, Jason, Mark and the Donegal Vocational Schools team against Cork in the All Ireland final replay on St Patricks Day in Pearse Stadium, Galway at 1pm.

The senior team play Naomh Columba in the semi final of the Joe Larry Tournament this Friday night at 7pm in Ardara.

Naomh Conaill Notes 9th March 2011

The final night for ladies registration will take place this Saturday night 12th March in the clubhouse from 8.30pm-9.30pm. All those intending to play or be involved with any team need to be registered. A parent/guardian needs to attend for underage players. New members are welcome. The fees are adult players 51 Euro, U18 players 36 Euro and U10s 21 Euro, Non players 26 Euro (this applies to all managers, mentors, coaches, refs or anyone helping on the sideline).

The reserves were beat at home by Naomh Mhuire in the Gaeltacht last Saturday and on Sunday the seniors had a 3 point victory away to Termon also in the Gaeltacht. The club wishes Leo McLoone a speedy recovery after he picked up a very serious injury in the game. The seniors were also involved in the Joe Larry Tournament in Ardara last Saturday and have reached the semi final of the tournament after victories over Four Masters and Gweedore on the night. They now play Naomh Columba in the semi final which is due to be played on Friday 18th March.

Hard luck to Glenties Comprehensive U14 school team who were beat in extra time in the Ulster final last Thursday against Virginia College in the Athletic Grounds, Armagh.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 5,7,17,21. Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Martin Bonner and John Bonner, Glen Road. The jackpot now stands at 5,500 Euro.

Good luck to the Glenties Comprehensive U14 team who play Virginia College in Ulster Final this Thursday at the Athletic Grounds Armagh at 1pm.

The Donegal Vocational School team drew with Cork in controversial circumstances in Swords last Saturday and the replay has being fixed for Pearse Stadium, Galway on St Patricks Day.

The AGM was cancelled last Sunday because of a beareavement and it will now be on this Sunday at 6pm in the clubhouse.

The Donegal GAA Banquet is on this Friday 4th March in Jacksons Hotel. The club will be presented with the club of the year award and 4 players from the club will be presented with their Ulster U21 medals. Tickets are 35 Euro and anyone interested can contact Muriel Hegarty.

Good luck to John O’Malley, Seamus Ellis, Jason Campbell, Mark Gallagher and the Donegal Vocational School team in the All Ireland Final against Cork this Saturday which will be played at Fingallians GAA Club, Swords at 1pm. They reached the final after beating Meath 2-6 to 0-6 last Saturday in Ballyconnell.

Well done to the Glenties Comprehensive U14 team who reached the Ulster final after beating St Ciarans, Ballygawley 3-7 to 0-12 in Castlederg last Friday. They now play Virgina or Lurgan in the final which is due to be played on the 2nd or 3rd March.

The  500 club draw was held at the last excuetive meeting and the 1st prize of 500 Euro went to Ciara Molloy and 5 prizes of 100 Euro went to PJ Furey, Anthony Faulkner, James Gallagher, Gary O’Donnell and Eddie Gallagher.

The club have been honoured to be named Donegal Club of the Year for 2010 and will be presented with their award at the Annual Co Board Banquet which will be held on Friday 4th March in Jacksons Hotel. Also on the night the Donegal U21 team will be presented with their Ulster medals. Tickets are 35 Euro and anyone interested can contact Muriel Hegarty.

The 3rd team will start training this Thursday 24th at 8pm.

Naomh Conaill Notes 15th February 2011

Congratulations to John O’Malley (captain), Seamus Ellis, Jason Campbell and Mark Gallagher who part of the Donegal Vocational Schools team that beat Monaghan in the Ulster Final last Wednesday night in Kildress. They now play Meath in the All Ireland semi final this Saturday in Ballyconnell at 2pm.

Well done to the Glenties Comprehensive U14 team who defeated Inver College, Carrickmacross last Thursday in the Ulster Schools quarter final. They now play St Ciarans, Ballygawley in the semi final this Friday in Castlederg at 11.30am or 12 noon. Anyone travelling to the game should however confirm details before hand.

The club held a very sucessful Annual Presentation Dinner Dance last Saturday night in the Highlands Hotel. Special Guests on the night were Aoife Mc Donald, Cathal Corey, Tony Scuillion and Sean Conoughton Co Board Youth Officer. Medals were presented on the night to our victorious Senior and U21 championship winning teams and our senior ladies team winners of the Junior Gaeltacht. Award winners on the night were Senior Player of the Year went to Anthony Thompson, Most Improved Player Martin Regan, Reserve Player of the Year Hughie Gallagher, Third Team Player of the Year Philip Gallagher and Hugh Breslin. Ladies Player of the Year winner was Emily Thompson and Most Improved Ladies Player was Laoise Ward. Presentataions were also made to John O’Malley, Seamus Ellis, Jason Campbell and Mark Gallagher who were members of the Donegal Vocational Schools team that won the Ulster Final last week and presentations were also made to Leo Mc Loone, Dermot Molloy, Ciaran Boyle and Seamus Corcoran who were part of the Donegal U21 team that won the Ulster championship.

There will be a first aid course in the clubhouse this Friday from 6pm to 10pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 9.30pm to 4.30pm. The cost of the course is 75 Euro and there is a limited places left anyone interested can contact Roseleen Doherty.

The AGM will be on Sunday 27th Feb in the clubhouse at 6pm.
