Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 5th January 2011

The E.G.M. and A.G.M. were postponed due to the adverse weather and will now take place on Friday evening, January 7th, 2011 at 6.30p.m. and 7.00p.m.

The club resumed its normal golfing routine in late December following one of the coldest periods of weather in living memory. The Christmas Cracker scheduled to be played on Wednesday, December 22nd was cancelled due to the icy conditions.  The Christmas party, buffet and presentation of hampers and turkeys won in November and December also succumbed to the weather. The course is in excellent shape, however, with the greens true and receptive. The golf was surprisingly good following the members’ layoff, with low scores being recorded in each of the four competitions played over the holiday period. The best gross recorded was that of Noel Quinn who won Sunday’s competition with 32 stableford points, helped in no small part by birdies at six and seventeen. Pádraig Lavelle’s 38 nett points on New Year’s Day was also commendable, a back nine of 23 points proving the difference in the end.

The members sympathise with the Ward family on the passing of Nóirín last weekend. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.

A Club Golf Trip to Portugal in March 2011 is currently being organised and a keen group is already booked in for either a week-long break from the 22nd to the 29th of March or a four night stay from the 22nd to the 26th of March. They will be staying at the Vila Gale Marina 4-Star Hotel in Vilamoura. The trip will be on a bed-and-breakfast basis with four rounds of golf included at the Pinhal Golf Resort, Laguna Golf Resort, Millennium Golf Resort and Victoria Golf Resort (Home Of The Portugal Masters). Golf shuttle transfers will be provided to and from the hotel, as will bus transfers to and from Dublin Airport. The flight to Faro is with EasyJet, Belfast. A Gala Dinner and Prize-Giving will be held on the final night. Further details can be had by ringing the Pro Shop.

We wish all our members and friends a happy new year and the best of fortune in 2011.
