The Minor board would like to say a very big thanks to Robert Farrell who recently ran the Dublin City Marathon. Robert ran the marathon to raise funds for our under 6 and under 8 teams. We would also like to thank everyone who sponsored Robert in this event.

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to Gerry Byrne and family Ard Patrick, Glenties, on the sudden death of Gerry’s niece, Diane Byrne, Bunamin, Annagry, which took place at her home on Wednesday 5th November 2014; sincere sympathy also to Diane’s parents, Dee and Noreen and to her sister, Andrea, aunts, uncles, and all other relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bella Mc Gill, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties on the death recently of her sister, Sally Cunningham, Glasgow; and to Patsy Martin, Church Road, Glenties on the death of his aunt and to all other relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Agnes Harvey, Donegal Town on the death of her husband, Frank Harvey, on Saturday 8th November 2014; sincere sympathy also to his daughters and to all other relatives and friends. Frank, a native of Enniskillen, and his family spent a number of years in Glenties when he worked in the Bank before being transferred to Donegal Town. He was well known as a poet and playwright.

Glenties Parish Social:
The Christmas Parish Social will take place on Sunday 7th December in the Highlands Hotel, commencing at 3.00 p.m. with Mass. A warm welcome is extended to all our Senior Citizens. The Committee will appreciate any Donations or Raffle Prizes towards the running costs of the event.

Shop Local:
Glenties Community Action Group will once again provide a showcase for all our local businesses by holding a ‘Shop local Day’ at the Highlands Hotel on Sunday 16th November from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. This showcase will present what Glenties has to offer the shopper, as we approach the busy Christmas shopping period. Participating businesses will be able to promote their products. Don’t miss this opportunity to see what your town has to offer, including discounts and vouchers and remember ‘Shop local’.

Powerhour Kettlebell Toning Programme:

Sympathy:
Sincere sympathy is extended to Catriona Gallagher, on the death of her mother, Sarah Gallagher Ard Patrick, Glenties, which took place on Friday morning 31st October 2014; sincere sympathy also to Sara on the death of her granny; to Sarah’s brother and sister, nieces, nephews and all other relatives and friends. Burial took place in the New Graveyard after Requiem Mass in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday.

‘Come Dine with me’:
Naomh Conaill GAA Club is having a Fundraiser ‘Come Dine with me’ on Saturday 22nd November, followed by a great night’s entertainment in Kennedy’s Bar & Restaurant. Novena of Masses for the Dead:
Every Mass from Sunday 2nd November until Monday 10th November, in The Church of the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, and in St.Connell’s Church, Glenties, will be offered for those who are named in the Dead Lists. Special envelopes, containing Dead Lists, are available at the door of the Church. The completed lists should be returned by Sunday 2nd November, to be placed on the Altar for the Masses. Please do not leave envelopes with donations for Masses in or around the church. .The envelopes will be kept in a secure place between Masses.

Glenties Gets Ready for Halloween: Following on from the successful Harvest Fair Festival we are now busily preparing for the annual Halloween celebrations on the October Bank Holiday Weekend. The weekend will begin at 4 p.m. for kids, on Friday 24th with Ghost Walks along the spooky roads of Altar in Glenties, and at 7 p.m. for adults. On Saturday 25th the Kids Parade & Halloween Disco takes place in the Community Centre at 4 p.m.; followed at 9 p.m. by the return of the Fireworks Display, so enjoyed last year, with viewing from the Comp. Sports Field, buckets will be available for donations at this event. Then on Sunday 26th the now famous Glenties Halloween Parade and Ball takes centre stage, with the Main Street being overtaken by ghouls and goblins, and the Highlands Hotel being the venue for all the monsters to gather for the Ball. Proceedings begin at 10 p.m.; and a prize fund of € 2,000 is on offer for the best dressed participants and scariest parade floats, so get designing and making now, it’s just a week away and remember – Glenties is the best, and only place, to celebrate your Halloween. Congratulations to our Senior and reserve teams on their victory over St Eunans on Sunday last in Glenties. Both teams who ended top of their groups to reach the quarter final with mouth-watering ties, Seniors who were drawn against neighbouring town Ardara and to be played in Donegal town on sat 18th at 4pm and the reserves play Dungloe in Ballybofey on sun 19th at 5.30pm. Good luck to both teams and management involved.

Glenties Community Action Group::
“We wish to sincerely thank everyone who played a part in our recent successful Harvest Fair Festival. To all our sponsors, local businesses, stall holders, craftspeople and farmers, who helped create such a great atmosphere, a heartfelt thank you also to the local Gardaí, and County Council Personnel, for the road closures and street cleaning. A special thank you to all those who entered floats in the parade an helped with the Wild West Theme, and to all our musicians and entertainers thank you also. Finally to all the people of Glenties and beyond who turned out in such number and created such a buzz, thank you for your support and appreciation. We now turn our attention to our Halloween Weekend on the October Bank Holiday weekend, and hope for similar success and crowds as we saw at the Harvest Fair. Thank you to everyone again.”

The Late Hugh Boyle:
The death took place recently in Killybegs Hospital of Hugh Boyle, Caosan, Kilraine, Glenties. Hugh is survived by one brother, Michael and one sister, Philomena Coughlan, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His brother Patrick and two sisters, Bridget Boyle and Sarah O’ Neill predeceased him.

The Late Frank Connaghan:
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday 7th September 2014 of Frank Connaghan, Main Street (formerly Mill Road), Glenties. Frank is survived by his wife, Anne, son Manus, daughters, Tara and Francine sisters, Anne and Madge, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His daughter, Nadine predeceased him in 1988.

Golden Wedding:
Congratulations to Jimmy and Bernadette Mc Kelvey, Beaghmore, Fintown, who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary last weekend.

St Riaghan’s NS, Drimnacrosh are running an Occupational First Aid refresher course in the school on Wednesday 8th & Wednesday 15th October- (7 p.m. to 10 p.m. each evening).
