Naomh Conaill Notes 17th April 2012

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 11,15,16 & 20. Two prizes of €50 went to Nan Campbell Ard Mc Gill and Karen Kelly Tullyard Road Glenties. Next weeks jackpot is €2,400.

The clubs new hoddie for 2012 is now on sale in the Inniskeel Co-Op.

The Naomh Conaill Ladies would like to thank everyone who contributed to the recent Church gate collection a total of €905 was raised – your continued support is appreciated. Good luck to the U14 girls who will take part in the County Feile this week.

The U10′s are having a challenge game against Naomh Mhuire in Glenties this Saturday at 11am.

The U-12′s played in their first blitz of the year on Monday night in Glenties when they hosted Naomh Columba, Killybegs and Dungloe.They all enjoyed a great evening of football. Thanks to everyone who helped. Next Monday April 23rd at 6pm they are away to Naomh Columba (hosts) with Kilcar and Na Rossa also taking part.

The U14′s will compete in the Sean Slevin Memorial Tournament hosted by the Aodh Ruadh club in Ballyshannon this Saturday 21st April starting at 11am. Teams from Derry, Tyrone, Mayo, Sligo and Leitrim will be participating in what promises to be a great days football.

The U16′s got a draw in their Championship Preliminary round first leg game to Dungloe on Monday night. Dungloe 1-08 0-11 Naomh Conaill. This Monday April 23rd they are back in league action when they play Aodh Ruadh in the League Regional Semi final. This game is fixed for Dunkineely at 7pm.

The third team had a good away victory against Pettigo on Saturday. Pettigo 2-10 3-10 Naomh Conaill.

The Seniors continued their winning ways at the weekend with a victory over Glenswilly. Naomh Conaill 1-17 0-06 Glenswilly. The reserves got their first win in the league when they also defeated Glenswilly 1-08 to 1-04. This weekend is a busy weekend for both teams as they both have 2 games. On Friday April 20th they are away to our neighbours Ardara at 6.30 & 7.45 and then on Sunday April 22nd they entertain Dungloe at home 1.30 and 3.00.

The minors got their year off to a winning start when they overcame St Nauls in Glenties last Friday night. Naomh Conaill 1-16 0-04 St Nauls. This Wednesday 18th they are away to Dungloe @ 7pm.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Sylvia Briody, The Rock, Glenties, who died last Thursday 5th April and was buried in Glenties on Easter Sunday 8th April.

Collection
The St. Vincent de Paul Society Church Gate Collection for Uganda amounted to € 595. The Society wishes to thank everyone who contributed.

First Aid Course
There will be a Paediatric First Aid Course held in Glenties soon. This is a One Day Course and will be held on a Saturday or Sunday depending on numbers and dates available. If anyone is interested please contact Patricia on 087 9715723. The cost will be €45.

Preparation Programme for First Holy Communion
The Parish Based Preparation Programme for First Holy Communion called “Do This in Memory” will continue on Sunday 22nd April at 11 a.m. Mass.

Naomh Conaill Club Notes 11th April 2012

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 7,11,17 & 26. Two prizes of €50 went to Tommy Donaghue, Naomh Conaill senior team and Ownie Mc Menamin, Fintown. Next weeks jackpot is €2,300.

The U-12′s get their season underway this Monday 16th April @ 6pm with a Go Games Blitz in Killybegs. They are hosts to Naomh Conaill, Naomh Columba and Dungloe.

The U-16′s were beaten by Ardara in the league on Monday night. Ardara 0-07 0-04 Naomh Conaill. Despite the defeat they are through to the League Regional semi final on Monday 23rd April. Before that they are in the Preliminary Round First Leg of the Championship away to Dungloe on Monday 16th April @ 7pm.

The minors also get their season underway this week when they are home to St Nauls in the league on Friday 13th April @ 7pm. They then are away to Dungloe on Wednesday 18th April @ 7pm.

Congratulatios to Tommy Dwyer who was appointed 3rd team manager for the coming year. They played their 1st game in the league last Saturday against Glenswilly and were beaten 2-05 0-13. This Saturday they are away to Pettigo @ 7pm.

Both the Seniors and Reserve team were in league action on Monday against St Eunans. Our reserve team lost 3-11 2-09. The senior team recorded a victory on a score line of St Eunans 1-10 1-12 Naomh Conaill. They now turn their attentions to a home clash against Glenswilly this weekend. The club is currently selling Club Donegal cards. Theses cards gives you free admission to all club matches (league, championship & underage) in the county. We had a very successful outing in Narin and Portnoo on Good Friday.

We had 36 golfers play on the day and scoring was excellent.

Glenties Notes 5th April 2012

The Late John Mc Glynn
The death took place suddenly, at his home on Thursday 29th March 2012 of John Mc Glynn, Meentemargle, Fintown. His remains were brought to St. Colmcille’s Church, Fintown on Saturday morning. Fr. Gerard Cunningham and Fr. Padraig Ó Bhaoill concelebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Burial took place in the adjoining Graveyard. He is survived by his wife, Kitty, son John and his wife Emma, three grandsons, Stephen, Sean and Jamie, sister, Anna Molloy, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. One brother, Peadar predeceased him.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Kitty Roarty, The Wood, Glenties on the death last weekend of her brother, Peter Mc Ginley, Croagh; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bernie Mc Gill, Aighe, Ardara, (nee Boyle, Glenties) on the recent death of her husband Padraig; also to the children and extended family and friends.

Iniskeel Community Games
We’ve had great success in the County Finals in the last two weeks with a number of medal winners. Sunday 25th March in Fanad – Indoor Soccer – U 13 Girls – Gold Medals; U 15 Girls – Runners up – Silver Medals; Friday 30th March in The Milford Inn – Table Quiz – Scoil Mhuire Team – 2nd – Silver Medals; Drimnacrosh Team – 3rd – Bronze Medals; Saturday 31st March – in Fanad – Indoor Soccer – U 13 Boys – Runners Up – Silver Medals; U 15 Boys – Runners Up – Silver Medals. We would like to congratulate everyone involved, our Chairman Darragh Gallagher, who managed the Indoor Soccer Teams. We wish him and the U 13 Girls luck in the Ulster Finals, which will take place on 21st April in Letterkenny. We also want to thank everyone who contributed to our Bucket Collection which took place on 30th and 31st March. The amount raised was € 2309.48.

First Holy Communion
Children from St. Riaghan’s Drimnacrosh, Kilkenny N.S. and Scoil Mhuire will receive their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties at 11 a.m. Mass on Saturday 28th April.

Important Notice
Headstones at the top of the New Graveyard have been badly damaged by a large vehicle. This has caused great distress to the families, whose loved ones are buried in these graves. We appeal to people not to attempt to drive to the top of the Graveyard in large commercial vehicles as there isn’t enough room between the graves. If you are having work done by ‘Headstone & Monument ‘companies please advise them that they are not to drive to the top of the Graveyard or across the grass at the lower end. Thank you very much for your understanding and co-operation in this matter.

Fundraising Walk
A Fundraising Walk around Loughcrillan in aid of Glenties Day Centre and Alzheimer’s Day will take place on Good Friday; leaving Day Centre at 11 a.m. All donations greatly appreciated. Everyone is welcome.

Charity Cycle and Run / Walk
A Charity Cycle and Run / Walk will take place on Easter Monday 9th April in aid of Aware and The National Breast Cancer Research Institute. It will include a 30 k or 60k cycle or a 5k Run / Walk. Registration is from 9.00 a.m. – 9.45a.m. Start time is 10 a.m. at the Comprehensive School. Entry fee is € 10 or € 5 for U 18s. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Highlands Hotel. Your support would be greatly appreciated.

Mini Titanic Exhibition
The Senior Room Pupils in Edeninfagh National School have worked tirelessly over the past number of weeks to produce an impressive project on the “Titanic”. The Project will be displayed to the general public in Edeninfagh Hall on Sunday 15th April after Mass.

Fintown Festival
Fintown Festival takes place from Friday 1st June until Monday 4th June. Events will include – Leisure Cycle in association with Tír Chonaill GAP CC on Saturday 2nd at 10 a.m. – 30k & 60k; 5k Road Race at 3 p.m. On Sunday 3rd June there will be Marching Bands, Bonner / Cannon School of Dancing, Open Air Music Session, Vintage Tractor Run and Vintage Car Display. There will be more details later.

Scoil Mhuire
On Wednesday 28th of March, Scoil Mhuire, Glenties entered two teams into the Cumann Na mBunscoil indoor competitions in Letterkenny Aura Leisure Centre. The 4th and 5th class girls won the football, and the 4th and 5th class boys won the Hurling. While our girls were expected to do well, the achievement of the boys was incredible. With a minimum of coaching, they conceded no goals and went through the competition undefeated. Both teams will now go to Cookstown to represent Donegal in the Ulster Finals. Once again the young pupils of Scoil Mhuire have brought more success to both school and town

There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 4,7,8&27. Two prizes of €50 went to Henry Gillespie Mill Road and Eileen Gallagher Main Street Glenties. Next weeks jackpot is €2,200.

The 6th draw in the 200 club took place at the Community centre bingo on Tuesday 27th March 1st prize €500 Annette & Nora Mc Swiggan Glenties. 5 prizes of €100 each Poggy O’Donnell Mill Road, Pauline Gallagher Mullantyboyle, Daragh Gallagher Ard Patrick, Patricia Molloy Mill Road and Gerry O’Donnell Meenahalla.

The Regional U-14 Feile final took place in Glenties last Saturday. In the semi final Naomh Conaill defeated St Nauls. The final between Naomh Conaill and Aodh Ruadh was a tense exciting encounter that ended with a one point winning margin for the Aodh Ruadh lads 3-3 to 3-2.

The U-16′s were beaten last Tuesday by Killybegs. Naomh Conaill 0-12 3-10 Killybegs. This Monday 9th April they are away to Ardara @ 7pm.

The reserves and seniors both got the league underway last Sunday when they were away to St Michaels. The Reserves were beaten 0-14 to 1-08. The Seniors drew 0-15 1-12. This weekend they are due to play St Eunans in Letterkenny. Check clubs website for details of date & time.

The U14 girls played their 1st league game on Wednesday 28th March against Naomh Columba and they got their year off to a winning start. Naomh Conaill 6-16 1-03 Naomh Columba.

The clubs text service is starting again. Anyone new who wishes to join is asked to contact Muriel 087 6485725.

There will be a club meeting in the Clubhouse on Friday 6th April @ 8pm.

The Late Seamus O’ Donnell
The death took place in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin on Sunday 18th March 2012 of Seamus O’ Donnell, son of Maggie and the late Neilie O’ Donnell, Meenahalla, Glenties. His Remains came to the family home on Tuesday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday 23rd. Fr. Shane Gallagher assisted by Fr. Denis Quinn and Fr. Eamonn Mc Laughlin concelebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by John F. O’ Donnell and Denise Boyle. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Sincere sympathy is extended to all his relatives and friends.

Master’s Degree
Congratulations to Michéal Brennan, who was awarded a Master’s Degree in Business from University of Ulster Magee College. Michéal is a son of Francis and Kathleen Brennan, Main Street, Glenties.

Mass in Rossnowlagh
A bus will leave Mc Guinness’ Café at 6.00 p.m. on Tuesday 3rd April and every first Tuesday for Mass in Rossnowlagh. The organisers wish to make an appeal for people to join them.

X-Factor
Following the recent successful X-Factor night in M25 DVDs are now on sale in The Post Office, The Highlands Hotel, Keeney’s Bar and Melly’s Costcutters. This is a double DVD and is priced at just €10. All proceeds go to the three nominated Charities which are Donegal Hospice, Ronald Mc Donald House and The Local Playground. There was no winner of last weeks lotto. The numbers drawn were 4,5,26 & 27. Two prizes of €50 went to Nabla Furey, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties and Henry Gillespie, Mill Road, Glenties. Next weeks jackpot is €2,100.

The U-14′s were competing in the Feili na nOg peil blitz last Saturday where they had victories over Ardara, Naomh Conaill 2-9 2-2 Ardara and Dungloe, Naomh Conaill 1-7 2-3 Dungloe. They are now through to the Regional final this Saturday March 31st which will take place in Glenties at 10.30am.

The U-16′s had a good victory over Naomh Mhuire on Sunday. Naomh Conaill 4-16 0-08 Naomh Mhuire.

Club membership is now due for 2012. Adult membership is €30 and €10 for youth. There is also €100 membership which includes membership and entry into the weekly lotto. The closing date for membership is Saturday 31st March so the final registration night will take place in the Clubhouse on Friday 30th March between 8 & 9pm.

The club is holding a Scrap Saturday this Saturday 31st March in the club grounds so if you have any old scrap bring it along to be recycled between 9am & 4pm. A full list of items that can be recycled can be got on the clubs website or for more information contact Peter 087 6483685.

The Naomh Conaill Ladies board are collecting the Tesco schools and clubs vouchers. Anyone who has any vouchers and would like to help the club can give their vouchers to any of the Ladies committee or leave them in the Craft Gallery with Rosaleen.
