Swimming Pool at Kilclooney, Portnoo

After many years of work, the Narin, Portnoo, Rosbeg Community Co-Operative Society Ltd. (Dolmen Centre) is proud to announce that Donegal County Council have granted planning approval for our 25m x 10m Swimming Pool at Kilclooney, Portnoo.

There is a 4 week period before we get official Planning recognition (subject to any of the bodies who raised ‘an interest’, lodging an objection). Considering that these bodies have already looked at the project and deemed it appropriate, this is unlikely.

We are indebted to the Committee (in particular Tony Kitterick, who project managed this feat from the start), and to you the Community who stood by us when we ran fundraisers to engage Design Teams, create a Feasibility Study, source Natura Impact Statement etc. There are some conditions which we will have to observe, but these are not insurmountable and we look forward to progressing to the next stage of the project.

We always hoped to have our Planning Permission this side of a General Election, and we would encourage you all to use your democratic right to influence any prospective T.D’s when they are canvassing our area.

This Planning Permission is a bold statement by our Community, which states that we the people of this area believe that this will act as a ‘Flagship Project’ which will bring much needed investment to our area. We have spent nearly €100,000 to date on this development and it is now appropriate that the Funding Bodies and Government in general get behind us on this worthwhile project.

We will be preparing a funding plan in the Autumn which will see us prepare for any future progress.

GAP Adventures Business Opportunity

The Narin Portnoo Rosbeg Community Co-Operative Society Ltd. (Dolmen Centre) have produced a Business Plan for an Adventure Guiding Business in the GAP area.

The Co-Operative would like to share this with suitably interested individuals with a view to establishing a business in the area.

If you feel that this is an opportunity you wish to explore, or if you have a qualification in Adventure Sports, then this may be for you.

Preliminary contacts can be made via the following;

Paul McCrossan                087 4127441

Leonard Molloy                 087 6200242

Brian Morgan                    087 7535012

We look forward to hearing from you.

Bonny Glen Public Consultation

After many years of being shut off to public use, Coillte are ready to restore access to our much loved woodland walk at Clooney, Portnoo. The Dolmen Centre Committee have been working on the Community’s behalf to make this amenity available once again.

Coillte are to hold a public consultation in the Dolmen Centre on Wednesday 21st November @ 8pm, where they will unveil their plans for the site. This is an opportunity for local interested parties to bring their suggestions to the public body and to ensure that the amenity includes all things possible to make it an added attraction to the area.

So if for example, you see an opportunity to link this amenity to the local ‘Bog Road’ which in turn links to the Tullies road and runs adjacent to the GAP Trail, bring that thought to this forum and express it there! Could this be an opportunity to link them all together?

If you’re a Walker, Nature Enthusiast, Cyclist, Trekker or just curious to see what is being proposed, bring yourself along to the above and ensure your views are represented.

Hoping to see as many as possible there on the night!

Guided Activities Glenties, Ardara and Portnoo

A small group have been working on a project which aims to provide Guided Activities in the Glenties, Ardara and Portnoo areas. It’s working title is ‘Ardara Adventures’, and much work has been done on assessing costs for both equipment and training.

They are seeking funding from DLDC (Donegal Local Development Company), and have in principle been given the green flag to proceed, assuming that both the demand, and the business case for these activities can be established.

To that end, the group have devised 2 short survey questionnaires; the first, for prospective Guides, who would be willing to be trained in the prospective disciplines (Kayaking, Mountain Leader, Paddle Boarding, Sailing, Snorkeling, Surfing & Swimming. The second questionnaire, is to establish the market for these services.

We would be very much obliged, if you could fill out one of the attached questionnaires (and feel free to circulate it to whomever you feel would be interested).

Questionnaire 1 for those wishing to be trained and become Activity Guides;

Questionnaire 2 for those willing to utilise Activity Services;

We really appreciate your help in completing this, and hope that it will lead to some constructive employment for people in the area.
