Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 5th July 2010

Open Week was an enjoyable one for those taking part, with good scores being returned, despite the often inclement weather. The course is playing short at present due to the hard fairways, much to the satisfaction of golfers of all handicaps. The winners of the various competitions are listed below and we congratulate all the prize-winners, many of whom were at the presentation ceremony on Sunday night. We also thank the competition team for all their hard work.

Our junior team performed admirably in the first leg of their opening round of the Fred Daly Plate. The opponents were Northwest and winning six of the seven matches played at home was an excellent result and sets up an intriguing return match next week. The team consisted of Finnian O’Doherty, Aaron Bennett, Ciaran Thompson, Aidan Shovlin, Patrick Roarty, Ciaran Roarty and Paul Gallagher.

The club’s senior team got two matches in Ballyliffin last Tuesday and Bart will be hoping that the lads can win the three and a half matches necessary at home. We wish both junior and senior team well in their respective tussles.

The eagerly awaited Inter Districts will take place this Saturday and the various captains are on the prowl for players. The entry fee is 10 euro and tee booking is via the BRS system. Further information may be had from the Pro Shop. Seamus McDonagh says he is looking forward to presenting something to the Rosses team captain. Whether that will be the winner’s prize or the booby version remains to be seen!
