Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 8th June 2010

The club’s Donegal Minor League team failed to overcome a three two deficit from the away leg of their encounter with Dunfanaghy in Narin last Sunday. We wish the victors every success in the rest of the tournament. We also wish our own Pierce Purcell team well in their last 16 match against Castleblaney this Saturday.

Next Sunday features the President’s Prize, presented this year by Bart Whelan. We hope that Bart gets a fine day and that all goes well for the popular Ardara native. The last cards must be taken out prior to 3p.m. and a buffet will commence at 9p.m. The presentation of prizes will follow.

Pauric McHugh and Pauric Brennan won Sunday’s fourball betterball, sponsored by Glenties G.A.A. Several pairs finished on 67 nett, but the Ardara twosome’s back nine of level par proved the difference in the end. Well-timed birdies were achieved at the 6th and 16th and the lads were just two over par gross by the finish.

What a round by Manus Boyle round last Wednesday! The veteran golfer tore the course asunder and even had the temerity to blank a hole! His final tally was 48 points or twelve under par. Twenty-one of those points were accumulated on the front nine with the aid of a wee birdie on seven, but instead of the blank on nine derailing the express, Manus took his game to the next level, parring four holes coming home and birdying 15 and 18. Well done, Manus. Anthony Thompson and Paddy B. Boyle had exemplary rounds of 45 and 43 points respectively and deserve some kudos as well!

We had Danny Poulter, brother of Ian over in April to measure the course for Courseguides. The course guide will be available at the end of this month in the Pro Shop and advance images look great. We are delighted to have two sponsors for this new addition in Carnaween House and O.G.T., a seaweed fertiliser supplier.
