Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 8th September 2009
The seventh medal winner of the year hailed from Glenties and a popular winner he was too. Seamus Gildea began the year by winning a PING event in March and he added to that success with a hard-earned victory in the Ardara Golf Society competition. The rain was incessant throughout the day and Seamus got the worst of it early on. Solid driving on the front nine set him up for a good score and despite a few hiccups coming home, Seamus held on for a three under par nett total of 70. I look forward to the speech! He joins Bart Whelan, John Lennon, Charlie Tully, Finnian ODoherty, Denis Carbery and Alan Elliott in the eight-man draw for the Golfer of the Year matchplay competition to be held in October.
John Molloy won the latest fundraiser with an excellent score of 39 points last Wednesday, cruising through the front nine in two over par and maintaining that standard on the return to finish in a gross score of just four over par.
The Committee urges the holders of those tickets not yet sold to make a special effort to try and generate as much revenue as they can for their club. The prizes are lucrative, with a 20-year membership or alternatively a cash prize of 5,000 euro as the first prize. The draw will be held on September 26th and tickets cost 10 euro.
