Glenties Notes 13th May 2010

Winners
Congratulations to the U/16 Boys Football Team who defeated Donegal in the Regional Final in Mountcharles on Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May. On the same evening the Ladies Team defeated Ardara in the Gaeltacht Final in Termon. Well done to both teams.

New Arrival
Congratulations to Rosemary and Tim Dewhirst, Straboy, Glenties on the birth of their third child, a baby sister (Catriona, Ann) for Fintan and Ethan.

Thanks
Martin and Gerry Doherty would like to thank everyone who contributed in any way to their recent X-Factor Party in aid of the Donegal Hospice. A cheque for € 7,319 has been presented to Brid Mc Gill representing the Hospice.

Rose Mannering
Rose Mannering died at her home in Gortlosk, Glenties on Saturday 1st May 2010. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday 5th May. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00a.m. Readings were by her daughter, Mary and son Matthew. Other members of the family read Prayers of the Faithful, brought the Gifts to the Altar, read a Reflection and did the singing. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. She is survived by her husband, Matt, two sisters, thirteen children, Mary, Ann, Tony, Elizabeth, Rosemary, Francis, Matthew, Julie, Catherine, Deirdre, Eddie, Michael and Christopher, forty five grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, nieces nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her sister-in-law Mary Mullane predeceased her just over two weeks ago on the 14th April. Originally from Scotland, Rose and her husband Matt came to the Comprehensive School, Glenties as Art teachers in 1971.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Dee Boyle, Ardconnell and Geraldine Perry, Tullyard Road, Glenties on the recent death of their brother, Tony Dempsey, Strabane.
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Teresa Naughton, Millside, Fintown who died recently in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar.

Official Opening of Páirc Acla
The official opening of Páirc Acla by Pat the Cope and Mary Coughlan is taking place on this Sunday morning 16th May at 12 Noon in Fintown. Blessing is by Fr. Gerard Cunningham. Events throughout the day include the following: Naomh Conaill GAA Club – U 12 Gaelic Football Boys & Girls at 12.30 p.m., Gairmscoil Chú Uladh – Gaelic, Soccer and Rugby at 2.30 p.m., Scoil Cholmcille Fintown – Sports Activities at 4.00 p.m., Fintown Harps versus Finn Harps at 5.30 p.m. There will also be music with the Fintown Choir at 12. DE- RAILED at 3.30 p.m. and Glenfin Marching Band at 5.00 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Admission is € 10 – Children free. The Committee wishes to thank all the people of the parish for their help in buying tickets to support this sporting development over the last few years.

Ardconnell 60
Plans are at an advanced stage for the Celebrations scheduled to take place in Ardconnell on the June Bank Holiday weekend 4th – 6th June. Tickets for the Dinner Dance on the Saturday night are now available directly from Annette Mc Gettigan 087 6451620 or may be booked through any Committee member. Please book early as numbers are strictly limited and tickets are selling fast. Limited admission may be available to the dance after the dinner.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 4th May were – Josie Martin won the Jackpot of € 400. Sile Nuog, Leticia Doherty, Margaret Rodger, Patrick Browne, Liam Furey, Annie Deane, Kilcar, Kitty Mc Glynn, and Teresa Mc Kelvey won € 100 each. Hugo Mc Dyer, Kathleen Mc Shane, Ann Mc Ginley, Mary Mc Dermott, Ann Byrne, James O’ Donnell, Breege Coyle, Patsy Martin, Anne Furey, Christine Mc Cool, Kathy Connell and Ann Furey won € 50 each. P. Mc Gill, Glenties, Paul Martin and Shirley Mc Hugh won € 35 each.
