Glenties Notes 14th July 2010

Ladies Football
Congratulations to local girl, Aoife Mc Donnell, Captain of the Donegal Ladies Team, who won the Intermediate Ulster Final on Sunday 4th July, when they beat Cavan in Clones. They beat Cavan again last Sunday 11th July in the first round of the All Ireland Intermediate Championship in Donegal Town. Well Done Girls.

First Baby
Congratulations to Isobel and Declan Bonner, Glen Road, Glenties on the birth recently of their baby girl (Aoife).

Cannon / Mc Intyre Wedding
Gavin Cannon and Bridgeen Mc Intyre were married in St. Mary’s Chapel, Sessiaghoneill, Ballybofey on Saturday 3rd July. Fr. Sean Cannon, uncle of the groom and Fr. Arkinson, Sessiaghoneill officiated and concelebrated Nuptial Mass. Gavin is a son of Michael and Marie Cannon, Station Road, Glenties and Bridgeen is a daughter of Tommy and Bridie Mc Intyre, Sessiaghoneill. Her father gave the bride away and she was attended by her sister Anita Martin and her friend, Kay Gallagher. Niece of the bride, Ava Martin was a junior bridesmaid. Ken Cannon, brother of the groom was bestman. Gavin’s friend, John Cashman and his nephew, John Michael Cannon were groomsmen. Sean Martin was pageboy. Readings were by Wendy Scanlon and Michelle Devaney. Edel Duffy, Emer Gillooley, Damien Devaney and Teresa Gillespie read Prayers of the Faithful. Bridie Mc Intyre and Marie Cannon, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Matt Mc Granaghan-fiddle, Denise Roper-piano, C.J. Mac Ilwaine-flute and Sheena Mc Guire-soloist. The reception was held in The Villa Rose Hotel & V-Spa, Ballybofey and the honeymoon was spent in Florida.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo on Tuesday 6th July in the Community Centre, Glenties were – Mary Boyle, Burtonport won the Jackpot of € 400. Ann Whyte, Eileen Gallagher, Mrs. Shaw, Mrs. Shaw, James Daniel, James Quinn, Brockagh, Mary Martin, Mary Ward and May Mc Gowan won € 100 each. Julia Molloy, Nan Craig, Francis Cunningham, Kathleen Mc Shane, Lisa Coughlan, Bernie Fitzpatrick, Aisling Sweeney Kathleen Gallagher, Main Street, Mary Kennedy, May King, Anna Cannon and Christopher O’Donnell won € 50 each. Kitty Mc Glynn and Faye Moore won € 25 each.

Stephanie Hegarty and Melissa Byrne would like to thank everyone who donated so generously to their fundraising for the Building Project in Africa, which they have just completed. It was very much appreciated.

Graveyard Mass
Mass will be celebrated in the New Graveyard, Glenties next Sunday 18th July at 3.00 p.m.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the husband, family, relatives and friends of Madge Reilly (nee Ward), Buncrubog, who died last Wednesday at her home.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Pauline Mc Hugh, The Rock, Glenties and her sister Peggy Slevin, Ballyshannon and all the relatives and friends of Annie Houston, (nee Mc Hugh, Glenties), who died last week in Perth,

Sincere sympathy is extended to his sisters, Kathleen Boyle, Lettermacaward and Noreen Kelly, New Jersey and all the relatives and friends of Michael Campbell, who died in Bayonne, U.S.A. last week. Michael was a son of the late Brian and Hannah Campbell, formerly of Mill Road, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Jim Gallagher, Gortnasillagh, Glenties and formerly U. S. A. who died in Letterkenny Hospital on Friday 9th July 2010.

Cake Sale
Glenties Theatre Workshop is having a Cake Sale in the Community Centre at 8 p.m. after Mass on Saturday evening and after the Graveyard Mass on Sunday. A variety of homemade Buns, Cakes, Scones and Flans will be on sale – something for everyone. Please come along and give your support. It will be much appreciated.

Heartland
A Bord Na Mona Exhibition, celebrating 75 years of Progress and Innovation, will take place in the Comprehensive School New Gym from Tuesday 13th July until Saturday 31st July – Monday – Friday 11.00a.m. – 7.00p.m. and Saturday 12.00p.m.-5.00p.m.

Fundraising Night for Independent Living
Donegal Centre for Independent Living will hold a Fundraising Night in M25 in Glenties next Sunday18th July. Independent Living trains and provides personal assistants to work with people with disabilities in their own home. Due to lack of funding this year and in order that this service can continue, Independent Living is now forced to fundraise. The fundraising night in M25 starts at 7 p.m. with music, dancing and a buffet. Music is by Derailed & Rambling Fever. Ardara Jiving Group (Strictly Come Dancing) will also be there. Donations will be accepted at the door. A Courtesy Bus is available. Contact M25 at 074-9551118. Any enquiries contact 087-2921016 or M25.

Playschool / Afterschool Summer Activities Programme
The main activities for week 3 – 19th – 23rd July are – Playgroup: Music and movement workshop with Katie, Making musical instruments and shakers, T – Shirt Printing. Afterschool: Irish Dancing with Emily, Beginners 1.30p.m. Intermediate – 2.00p.m. – 3.00p.m. Contact the school for further information.

Annual Water Safety Swim Week
The week runs from Monday 26th July until Friday 30th July at Narin Strand and the Pier in Portnoo. All are welcome, however, any child of 6 years or under must be accompanied at all times by and adult. Registration takes place from 11a.m. on Monday 26th at the prom at the beach.
