Glenties Notes 1st April 2010

Mc Loone / Diver Wedding
Sean Mc Loone and Lorraine Diver were married in The Church of the Holy Family, Ardara on February 20th 2010. Sean is a son of Leo and Annette Mc Loone, Glenties and Lorraine is a daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Diver, Ardara. Bridesmaids were Amanda Diver sister of the bride, Deridre Diver, Donna Ward, Arlene Diver and Isobel Bonner. The groom’s brother, Leo was bestman. John Bonner, Rory Bonner, Patrick Mc Gill and John Ward were groomsmen. Aoife De Faoite and Rebecca Laughlin were flowergirls and Lorcan Brennan and Kyle Murphy -Diver were pageboys. Readings were by Ollie Ryan and Hugh Haughey. Carina O’ Connell, Grace Doherty, Carol Mc Gill, Michael Mc Loone and Donal Boyle read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by Annette Mc Loone and Mairead Molloy. Music was by the Laughlin Sisters. The hymn “Come to our Hearts” was sung by Amelia Laughlin. The reception was held in The Blue Haven and the honeymoon was spent in Florida.

New Arrival
Congratulations to Breege and Michael Mc Ginty, Monaghan on the birth recently of their second child, (Jude), a baby brother for Noah. Breege is a daughter of Paddy and Bridie Doherty, Mill Road, Glenties.

Bingo
Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 23rd March were – Frances Furey won the Jackpot of € 400. Gerry Doherty, Fintown and Bridie Gallagher, Killybegs won € 150 each. Kathleen Keeney, Breege Roarty, Marian Ward, Philomena Mc Callaig, Sarah Long, Fintown and Nan Doherty, Dungloe won € 100 each. Teresa Mc Gill, Fintown, Christine Mc Cool, John Molloy, Fintown, Christopher Hanlon, Leitir, Sally Mc Guigan, Mary Gallagher, Killybegs, Libby Mc Gowan, Bella Mc Gill, Kathleen Mc Shane, Philomena Mc Callaig and Gracie O’ Hara won € 50 each. Norah Gallagher and Brid Brennan won € 25 each.

Glenties Community Centre Bingo is held every Tuesday night. There will be extra prizes at the Easter Bingo which is on Tuesday 30th March.

Jimmy Sweeney
Jimmy Sweeney, better known as Jimmy the Twin, died peacefully after a short illness, at his home on Main Street Glenties on Saturday 20th March 2010. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday morning. Fr. Shane Gallagher C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Members of the extended family did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Jimmy is survived by his twin brother, John, nieces, nephews, grandnieces / nephews, great grandnieces / nephews, sisters-n-law, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His brothers, Tom, Danny and Vincent, sisters, Eileen and Chris and nephew Martin predeceased him. Jimmy enjoyed good health until a few weeks before his death. He and his brother John spent all their lives in Glenties and seemed to be part of the town as they sat on their chairs outside their home. Jimmy had a word for everyone who wanted to chat, the main topic being Gaelic Football. He could remember games from way back and the names of players from long ago.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Josie Bonner, Mill Road, Glenties who died in Sligo Hospital on Thursday 25th March 2010.

Table Quiz
There will be a Table Quiz in The Glen Tavern on Friday 9th April at 9.00 p.m. in aid of “The Mountain Rescue”. Tables of four. Everyone is welcome.

Playschool / Afterschool: The Playschool / Afterschool will re-open after the Easter holidays on Monday 12th April.

St. Connell’s Church Glenties – Holy Thursday – 7.30 p.m. Good Friday – 3.00 p.m. and ‘An Hour around the Cross’ at 9.00 p.m. Holy Saturday Easter Vigil – 9.00 p.m. Candles will be provided for use during the Service of Light.

Family Mass
The 11a.m. Mass on Easter Sunday will be celebrated as the Family Mass; the Children of the Parish will prepare the Liturgy.

Divine Mercy Sunday in Knock
Sunday 11th April is Divine Mercy Sunday. It will be celebrated in Knock with Concelebrated Mass and Divine Mercy Devotions. A coach will depart Glenties that morning at 8.30 a.m. Anyone interested in travelling to Knock should leave their name in Mc Guinness’ Café or telephone 9551284.

Les Misérables
St. Columba’s Comprehensive Glenties, School Production of Les Misèrables will be performed in the Comprehensive School Gym on Friday 9th Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th April and on Friday 16th Saturday 17th April – nightly at 8.00 p.m. To avoid disappointment please book your ticket through the School Office on 9551172.
