Glenties Notes 20th January 2010

Paddy Mc Geehan
The death took place suddenly at his home on Sunday 10th January 2010 of Paddy Mc Geehan, Derries, Glenties. His remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. Readings and Prayers of the Faithful were by members of the extended family. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell and Sinead Finn. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Paddy is survived by his wife, Mamie, sons, John and Patsy, sister Mamie Mc Dyer, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Two sisters, Kitty and Nan predeceased him.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the Sisters of Mercy and also the relatives of Sister Carmel who died in Ballyshannon on Thursday 14th January 2010 and was buried there on Saturday. Sr. Carmel spent a good number of years in Glenties and was a very popular member of the community.

Nationwide
Isobel Mc Loone, Mill Road, Glenties and Oliver Mc Devitt, Fintown will be appearing on Nationwide on Monday 1st February.

New Arrival
Congratulations to Andrena and Mark Bonner, Drimnasillagh, Glenties on the birth recently of their baby boy, (Oisin), a little brother for Jamie and Emma.

‘Kits for Kids Tokens’
Scoil Mhuire are presently collecting ‘Kits for Kids Tokens’ from the Irish Daily Mail newspaper and would be very grateful to anyone who buys the paper if they would send in the tokens to the school as they need 400 before the 5th February. For further information contact Mr. Mc Cann at 9551521.

A.G.M.
Naomh Conaill A.G.M. which was due to take place on 24th January has been cancelled, and will now take place on Sunday 31st January at 3.00 p.m.

Naomh Conaill Dinner Dance
The Annual Dinner Dance which was cancelled due to weather conditions will now take place on Saturday 6th February.

Thanks
The Church Gate Collection held recently in aid of the Town Christmas Lights amounted to € 664.00. The committee would like to thank everyone who donated so generously. They would also like to thank the Glenties Drama Group for their very generous donation of € 500 which was much appreciated.

Leonard Quinn would like to thank all the local businesses who kindly took Sponsorship Cards and also all the people who so generously donated money for his New Year’s Day Swim in Narin. A total of € 1, 700 was raised and this money is going to support Suicide Awareness Programmes at The Family Enrichment Centre, Stranorlar.
