Glenties Notes 31st July 2008

The death took place peacefully, at her home on Saturday 19th July 2008 of Gracie Mc Dyer, Mullantyboyle, Glenties. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday 21st. Fr. Paul Gallagher, Glenties assisted by Fr. Denis Quinn, Falcarragh and Fr. Seamus Gallagher, Lettermacaward concelebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00a.m. Readings were by Gracie’s granddaughters, Laura Byrne and Colleen Mc Dyer. Alison Mc Monagle, Dayna Byrne, Stephen Cannon, Brendan Mc Dyer and Damien Cannon read Prayers of the Faithful. Brendan Mc Dyer, Ronan Cannon, Paul Byrne and Ciaran Cannon brought the gifts to the Altar. All are Gracie’s grandchildren. Music and singing was by John F. O’ Donnell, Ben Craig, Sinead Finn and granddaughters, Laura and Dayna Byrne. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Gracie is survived by son, Hugh Brendan, Ard Mc Gill, daughters, Grainne Mc Dyer, Mullantyboyle, Glenties, Carmel Byrne, Lettermacaward, Bridie Cannon, Falcarragh, sisters, Mamie Mc Geehan, Derries, Annie B. Mc Dyer, Kilraine, Glenties, brother, Patrick O’Donnell, Glasgow, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Tommy predeceased her in 1980 and her brother John also predeceased her.

The death took place in St. Vincent’s Private Hospital, Dublin on Tuesday 22nd July 2008, after a long illness, of Cornelius Bonner, Doohill, Ardara and formerly of Ardconnell, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home on Wednesday and to the Church of the Holy Family, Ardara on Friday morning for Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the adjoining graveyard. He is survived by his wife, Bernadette, son, Eamonn, daughters, Paula, Lorraine and Eimear, brother, Eddie and sister, Annie, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Patsy Trimble, Maas, Glenties on the death recently of his mother, Mary Ann Trimble, Lettermacaward; also to all the members of his family and to all the relatives and friends.

Wedding Congratulations to Noreen Robinson, Mill Road, Glenties and Kevin Mc Monagle who were married in Glenties on Saturday last.

The Donegal Leprosy Fund annual Church Gate Collection in aid of Donegal Missionary Nuns and Priests will be held on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd August. All money collected will be given to Donegal Missionaries working in third world countries. Your support will be very much appreciated.

Applications for socially monitored Alarms / Security Lights etc. are being taken, up to 30th September. Pensioners wishing to avail of these very valuable items are asked to talk to any member of the Community Alert Committee or telephone – Michael Glynn -9551593, Nora Breslin – 9551192 or John Gormley – 9551258.

Councillor Terence Slowey is pleased to announce that funding has been secured for the replacement of water mains and footpath at Ardconnell, Glenties. Cllr. Slowey welcomes this allocation in funding for which he has lobbied for some years.

Please note that the Summer Camps scheduled to start in Glenties on Wednesday 6th and Monday 11th August have been cancelled due to lack of numbers.

Summer Activities Canoeing off Dooey Beach on Tuesday 5th August or Wednesday 13th August. A bus will leave Portnoo at 11.45a.m., Ardara at 12 noon and Glenties at 12.30 p.m. Return leaving Dooey at 3.45 approx. Cost including travel is €20 per person…

Bowling in Letterkenny on Tuesday 12th August. Bus leaving Portnoo at 6.30 p.m., Ardara at 6.45p.m. and Glenties at 7.00p.m. It will leave Letterkenny at 10 p.m. The cost including travel and food is €20 per person. Laser Tag in Donegal Town on Monday 11th August. Bus leaving Portnoo at 5.45 p.m., Glenties 6.00p.m. and Ardara at 6.15p.m. Bus leaving Donegal at 9.15 p.m. The cost including travel and food is €20. Please book early as places will be limited. Call the Resource Centre at 074 9545879 as soon as possible. Booking for the canoeing must be done by Friday 1st August. All other activities must be booked by Thursday 7th August. Parents permission must be provided.

The Dolmen Centre Committee would like to thank all those who baked for the Cake Sale and everyone who supported it on the day.

An auction of furniture and household goods etc. will be held in the Dolmen Centre on Monday 4th August at 6.00 p.m. If you have items you would like to donate please contact Kay at 086 8638023, Mary at 074 9545216, Una at 074 9545255 or Hazel at 087 1390242. We can arrange to have large items connected.

An Art Exhibition will be held in the Inniskeel Hall, Portnoo on Saturday 2nd Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th August – Open each day – 11.00 a.m. until 6.00p.m. Admission is free.

The Annual Summer Cake Sale will take place on Wednesday 6th August at 3.00p.m. in Inniskeel Hall, Portnoo. Usual stalls on offer.
