Glenties Notes 3rd March 2009

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bridget Fletcher and family Ard Patrick, Glenties on the death of Bridget’s sister, Mary Smith, Buncrana, in Letterkenny Hospital on Wednesday 25th February 2009; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Bridie Browne, Ardconnell, Glenties who died in Arch View Lodge Nursing Home, Letterkenny on Saturday 28th February.

Congratulations to Marie Mc Geehan who graduated with a B.Ed. Degree at St. Patrick’s College, Dublin. Marie, a daughter of John and Susan Mc Geehan, Drumnaha, Fintown is a past pupil of S.N. Colmcille Fintown and Gairm Scoil Chu Uladh and is currently teaching in Co. Donegal.

There will be a Table Quiz in Paddy’s Bar, Friday 6th March and proceeds will go to The Hospice Foundation as part of the Dublin – Paris Challenge. The boys would appreciate your support for this event.

Many thanks to everyone who supported our Table Quiz in Paddy’s Bar and also all those who gave donations or helped out in any way. A total of €620 was raised, which will go towards purchasing of new computer suite.

Bingo Winners on Tuesday 17th February in The Community Centre, Glenties were – Jackpot €400 – Maggie Maloney, Ardara. Jamsie Byrne, Maas, Eilis Mc Morrow, Killybegs, Eilis Mc Morrow, Killybegs, Paula Hegarty, Glenties and Sarah Brown won €100 each. Tim Melly, Patricia Molloy and Mary Boyle, Burtonport won €100 + €50 each. Nancy Dorrian, Annie Davison, Burtonport, Cathie Connell, Portnoo, Charles Mc Carron, Dungloe, Bridie Boyle, Glenties, Christopher O’Donnell, Fintown, Joanne Gallagher, Station Road, Mary Gillespie, Bruckless, Marie Boyle, Kilclooney and James Gallagher, Ardara won €50 each. Charles Mc Carron, Dungloe, Kathleen Griffin, Frosses, Liz Buckley, Fintown and Sarah Mc Glynn won €15 each.

Bingo winners on Tuesday 25th February were – Jackpot €400 was won by Sarah Haughey. Maria Boyle, Mary Gallagher, Margaret Molloy, Sarah Gallagher, Vera Breslin and Cathy Connell won €100 each. Oisin Wallace, Mary Mc Taggart, Patricia Molloy, Margaret Gallagher, A. Keeney, Din Melly, Mona Mc Hugh, Barbara Quigley, Kathleen Boyle, John Molloy, Annie Deane, Peter Greene, May Mc Gowan, Denise Maguire, Belinda Boyle and Kay Gallagher won €50 each. Liam Martin won €20.

A Composting workshop and talk on recycling issues will be held in Glenties Community Centre on Wednesday 25th March at 7.00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Tidy Towns in conjunction with Donegal County Council W.e.e.e. Collection Day is on Tuesday 7th April at the Car park of the old National School in Glenties. This is an excellent opportunity to get rid of all electrical waste Free of charge. Bring your old washing machines, microwaves, TVs, etc. It will be open from 9.00 a.m. to 7.00p.m… Contact the Community Centre for further details at 074 – 9557880.

The Scoil Mhuire Annual Book Fair takes place in Scoil Mhuire from Tuesday 10th March to Friday 14th March. The Book Fair will be opened each of those days from 3 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

There will be a Ceilí and Old Time Dance in the Community Centre, Glenties on Friday 13th March. Dancing is from 9.30 p.m. – 12 midnight. Music is by Martin Duggan. Admission is €8 including supper. All proceeds will go the Woodville Unit, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar.
