Glenties Notes 8th April 2010

Josie Bonner
The death took place in Sligo Hospital on Thursday 25th March 2010 of Josie Bonner, (nee Mc Nelis, Kilclooney) Mill Road, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast assisted by Fr. Philip Daly and Fr. Adrian Gavigan concelebrated Requiem Mass. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Josie’s son Eamon, his wife Paula and some friends. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. She is survived by sons, Joseph, Seamus and Eamon, daughters, Mary, Bernadette and Carmel, one brother, Sean Mc Nelis, Derries, Glenties, two sisters, Nellie, Kilclooney and Anne, U.S.A., grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Josie’s husband James died in 1998. Her brothers, Paddy, Jimmy and Tony also predeceased her. Three other members of the Mc Nelis family died at a young age.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Peggy Mc Dyer, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties on the death of her sister Bridie Tighe, Ballina, which took place last week; also to all the family, relatives and friends.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo on Tuesday 30th March in the Community Centre, Glenties were – Nellie Doherty won the Jackpot of € 400. Rosaleen Gallagher, Ardara won € 150. May Mc Gowan, Killybegs, Kathleen Kenny, Nora Mc Hugh, Fay Moore, Mary Casily, Mary Gavigan and Pauline Mc Geehan won € 100 each. Owen Ward, Mully, Kitty Mc Glynn, Fintown, Owen Ward, Mully, Maggie Boyle, Sarah Long, Fintown, Nora Gallagher, Rosaleen Melly, Gracie O’ Hara, Lisa Coughlan, Sarah Mc Glynn, Fintown, Patricia Molloy, Joseph, Martin, Claire Keeney, and Joanne Gallagher won € 50 each.

Excellence Award
Congratulations to Angelene Ashworth on her winning the 2010 A. G. S. I. Excellence Award, a Prestigious National Honour conferred by members of the public for her services to the community. She will be presented with this award by the Garda Commissioner and further awards will be presented to her by representatives of public bodies at a function in Galway. Angeline is stationed in Cabinteely, Co. Dublin and is a daughter of Noel and the late Bridie Conefry, Mill Road, Glenties.

Table Quiz
There will be a Table Quiz in The Glen Tavern on Friday 9th April at 9.00 p.m. in aid of “The Mountain Rescue”. Tables of four. Everyone is welcome.

Daffodil Day Collection
Thank You to all who helped and gave their support to the collection. The amount collected was € 3,099.97.

Enrolment Day for Scoil Mhuire
Enrolment Day for new Junior Infants to Scoil Mhuire will take place on Wednesday 21st April from 1.30p.m. – 3.00p.m. Enrolment forms may be collected at the school, prior to this date from Wednesday 14th April onwards. New entrants will have a chance to sample school life, see their classroom and meet a few new friends.
