Glenties Notes 8th May 2009

Wedding Bells
Congratulations to Breda Trimble, Maas, Glenties and John Maloney from Limerick who were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday last 1st May. 

First Holy Communion
Congratulations to all the boys and girls from the Parish who received their First Holy Communion on Saturday 2nd May in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties and in The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Sunday 3rd May.

Michael Mc Loone
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Saturday 25th April 2009 of Michael Mc Loone, Narin Road, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday. His brother, Fr. John assisted by a large number of priests concelebrated Requiem Mass at noon. Readings were by Sr. Anne, Michael’s sister and John Malone. John Campbell, Maria Mc Dermott(Mc Loone), Denise Likely(Mc Bride), Mary Boyle O’Brien, Caoimhe Griffin, and Marie Therese Bonner read Prayers of the Faithful. Michael’s grandchildren, Joe, Callum and Erin and his sister-in-law, Kathleen Bonner brought the Gifts to the Altar. A Reflection was read by his daughter, Anne. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’Donnell and Sinead Finn. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Michael is survived by daughters, Anne, Martina and Mary, son Joseph, brother, Fr. John, sisters, Bried Boyle and Sr. Anne, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His wife Nancy predeceased him three years ago. His sister, Maura Mc Bride and a baby sister, Mary Bridget also predeceased him.

Moving
Garrett O’Donnell Pharmacy will close on Wednesday 13th May at 1.00p.m. to facilitate move to new premises. The new Pharmacy will open at 9.30 a.m. on Thursday 14th May and normal business will resume.

Glenties Theatre Workshop
A meeting will be held in the Community Centre, Glenties on Friday 8th May at 8.00p.m. for children from all schools in Glenties and the surrounding areas, who are interested in taking part in the next production. Children must be accompanied by a parent for Registration. There will be a registration fee of €10 per child to cover expenses eg. – Script copying, Rent for Community Centre, Costumes, Sets etc. If there is any person in the community who would like to help out in any way please come along.

Anniversary Celebrations
To celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the GAA, Naomh Conaill GAA Club will be holding a Special Fun Day at the Club Grounds on Sunday 10th May. The day will start at 1 p.m. at the Community Centre with a parade to the pitch, which will include all underage players, followed by an afternoon of fun and games (weather permitting) for young and old. In the Clubhouse there will be a display of Club Photos, videos of old games and traditional music. At 4.00 p.m. a special Club Mass will be celebrated in the Clubhouse and after Mass there will be a ‘Celeb Football Game’. The Club would like to extend and open invitation to everyone in the parish to attend.

Collections
The recent collection for the Irish Kidney Association amounted to € 810. Thank You.

The Multiple Sclerosis Church Gate Collection on Sunday 26th April amounted to €828.39. A sincere thank you to all who contributed.

Challenge ’09
A group of 30 people are taking part in a Run, Cycle and Kayake Challenge in Falcarragh on the 21st June to raise money for the Donegal Hospice. Fr. Denis Quinn is a member of the group. A Barbecue and Fundraising Night will be held in the Glen Tavern on Friday 15th May in support of this event. Barbecue served at 9.00p.m. until 10.00p.m. Music for the night is provided by B & J Sound. All are welcome.

Scoil Mhuire Enrolment Day
Enrolment Day for Scoil Mhuire will be on Thursday 28th May from 1.30 p.m. – 3.00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and become familiar with your child’s new school environment. Enrolment forms may be collected from the school office before this date. For further information contact the school at 074-9551521.

Tea / Coffee Morning
The Donegal Alzheimer’s Society will hold a Tea / Coffee Morning in The Day Centre, Glenties this Thursday 7th May. Everyone is welcome. Please support this very worthy cause.
