Glenties Notes on 25th June 2007

Congratulations to June (nee Conefry) and Hugo Gilroy, Alter, Glenties on the birth of their third child in Letterkenny Hospital on Wednesday 20th June 2007, a baby sister for Aidan and Emily.

Medjugorje Peace Mass will be celebrated in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday 28th June at 8.00p.m.  Everyone is welcome.

Udarás na Gaeltachta in partnership with the local development committee in Edeninfagh will shortly be undertaking a survey on the Irish language in the parish.  A bilingual questionnaire will be delivered to each house in the area and will be collected within a week.  Your co-operation in this project would be greatly appreciated.

The Church Gate Collection for the Irish Cancer Society, taken up recently, amounted to 1,245.50 Euro.  Thank you to those who gave a donation.

Glenties Playschool and Afterschool would like to thank all the people who donated money (some several times) at the bucket and the Church Gate Collection.  The amount raised was 3,483.47 Euro.  We would also like to thank all the parents who gave their time.

The death took place in Liverpool on Sunday 10th June 2007 of Gemma Mc Loone, formerly of Mill Road, Glenties.  Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 16th.  Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P. Glenties assisted by Fr. Kevin O’Doherty P.P. Newtowncunningham concelebrated RequiemMass.  Readings were by Gemma’s brother Donal and her nephew Arthur Mc Loone.  Susan, Gemma, Aidan Mc Loone and Mary Carson, nieces and nephew read Prayers of the Faithful.  Singing was by niece, Deirdre Mc Loone.  Burial took place in the New Graveyard.  Gemma is survived by sisters, Eilis Herron, Mill Road, Glenties, Anne in England, brothers, Seamie, Newtowncunningham, Donal, Letterkenny, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.  Her sister, Maura and brother Art, predeceased her.

On Saturday 16th June 2007 Patricia Earley and Brendan Kennedy were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties.  Fr. Paul Gallagher officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass.  Patricia is a daughter of John and Anne Earley, Mullinard, Glenties and Brendan is a son of Charlie and Kathleen Kennedy, Dunkineely.  Her father gave the bride away and her sister, Collette Earley and her cousin, Pamela Kelly attended her.  James Breslin, friend of the groom was bestman and the groom’s brother, Emmet was groomsman.  Darcy Kennedy, niece of the groom was flowergirl.  Readings were by Shane Gillespie, friend of the groom and the groom’s brother, Ronan Kennedy.  Sean Earley, brother of the bride, Charlene Kelly, cousin of the bride, Grainne Kennedy, sister of the groom and Brian Mc Cabe, cousin of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful.  The mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar.  Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’Donnell.  The reception was held in The Lake House Hotel, Clooney, Portnoo and the honeymoon was spent in the Isle of Man.
