Glenties Notes on April 19th 2000

HOLY WEEK

Service Times in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties, Holy Thursday, Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper — 7.30p.m. Good Friday, Celebration of the Lord’s Passion –3.00 p.m. Holy Saturday, Easter Vigil Mass — 9.00 p.m. Candles will be provided for use during the Service of Light.

Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, Holy Thursday –6.00 p.m. Good Friday –5.00 p.m.

Holy Saturday –11.00 p.m.

Mass of Chrism will be celebrated in St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny at 11.00 a.m. on Holy Thursday. All are welcome to attend.

Please change small coins into £1 coins or bank notes, and bring your Trócaire donation in the special Trócaire Envelope provided in your Sunday Envelope Box dated for Holy Thursday.

Maps regarding The Draft County Donegal Development Plan are on display in Brennan’s Window. A copy of the Material Alteration (No.1) to The Draft County Development Plan 1988 is available for viewing in Francis Brennan’s. Glenties Traders Association will be holding a public meeting before the end of April to discuss The Development Plan.

Coming soon is a “Spring Clean Day” in Glenties and surrounding areas. This annual Spring Clean is sponsored by Donegal County Council and promoted by An Taisce. All local groups are asked to participate in this clean up.

The Church Gate Collection taken up by St. Vincent de Paul Society for the Flood Victims of Mozambique amounted to £517.00. Thanks to all who supported this very worthy cause.

Unislim classes in Glenties will be closed as from 20th April. Nearest class will be held in Ardara every Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. in Community Centre.

The Glen Tavern Tug-O-War team held their Grand Draw in the Glen Tavern on Sunday night last. The winners were as follows –1st Prize T.V. and Video — Julia Molloy, Buncrubog. 2nd — £100 Shopping Voucher for Mc Elhinney’s — Siobhan Mc Menamin, Fintown. 3rd — Half Ton of Coal –Patrick Molloy, Meenagolan. 4th — £50 Voucher for Spar. Glenties –Siobhan Mc Menamin, Fintown. 5th — Meal in Narin Inn –Sarah Melly, Gortnasillagh. 6th — 2 Tickets to Dublin on Mc Geehan’s Coach — Jimmy Mc Gill, 13 Ard Mc Gill, Glenties. 7th — Meal in Highlands Hotel –John Mulvaney, Doochary. 8th — Set of Glasses –Dermot Molloy, Mullanmore. 9th — Bottle of Brandy –Winnie Kelly, Draperstown. 10th — Bottle of Whiskey — Sharon Marley, Cloghan.
A special presentation was made to John Quinn, Glen Tavern for his support and coaching of the team since 1945. Spokesman for the team, Gerry Molloy said, but for John’s dedication that the present team would not be so strong. In returning thanks John wished them well in the year 2000. The large crowd present had an enjoyable night. Music was by local artists, Breidin & James Gallagher. Philomena Mc Callog and Darragh Gallagher won the in-house Draw.
