Glenties Notes on August 9th, 2002

On Friday 26th July 2002 Laura Cranley and Andrew Mc Grath were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P.Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Laura is a daughter of Tim and Anne Cranley, Mill Road, Glenties and Andrew is a son of Andrew and Margaret Mc Grath, Fermoy, Co. Cork. Her father gave the bride away and her friend, Deirdre Bonner, her cousin, Emma Swift and her sister-in-law, Mairead Cranley, attended her. A friend of the groom, Alan O’Callaghan was bestman and another friend; Nigel Lardner and the bride’s brother Vincent were groomsmen. Molly Mc Nelis, was a flowergirl and Christopher Mc Grath and Jamie Cranley were pageboys. Readings were by Niamh Condon, sister of the groom and Ronan Cranley, brother of the bride. Thomas Cranley, brother of the bride, Maeve Murray, friend, Dympna Swift, aunt, and Aoife Barry, cousin, read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. Carol Mc Nelis, cousin of the bride read a reflection. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel and the honeymoon was spent in Spain.

Congratulations to Fiona Breslin, Glenties and Laurence Breslin, Ardara, who were married in Glenties on Friday last.

Congratulations to Eamon Boyle and Michael Regan, students at St.Columba’s Comprehensive School, Glenties who won awards in a Literary Competition held recently by Udaras na Gaeltachta. Eamon is from Rosbeg and Michael is from Glenties.

The death took place on Monday 29th July 2002 in Harbour Lights Nursing Home of Maggie Gavigan, Straoughter, Glenties. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday evening, where Fr. Prendergast received them. On Wednesday morning Fr. Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Maggie is survived by two sons, Peter, Straoughter and Patrick, Birmingham, one brother, Con O’Donnell, Milford, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband predeceased her twenty years ago. Five brothers, Patrick, James, John, Joe and Hughie and one sister, Mary Ann also predeceased her. A native of Meentashask, Ardara, Maggie would have been ninety-three in October.

The death took place on Friday 2nd August 2002, in Brinley Manor Nursing Home, Convoy of Eileen Carlson, formerly Mc Namee, Derries, Glenties. Her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday evening. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass on Sunday morning. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Her husband, two sisters, Mamie Herron and Rita Walsh, four brothers, George, Jack, James and Packie predeceased Eileen. She is survived by one sister, Muriel Mc Grath, Letterkenny, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Mass will be celebrated in the Graveyard in Edeninfagh next Sunday 11th August at 3.00p.m.
