Glenties Notes on December 13th 2000

A large crowd of invited guests, walking enthusiasts and locals gathered in Glenties on Sunday 10th December for the official launch of “The Bluestack Way” by Minister of Tourism, Sport and Recreation Dr. James McDaid. Cutting the ribbon and blessing of “the way” took place at the footbridge on the Glen Road, then back to The Highlands Hotel where local community groups had displays, among them Glenties Traders Association and Naomh Chonaill G.A.A. Club.

The Fund Raising Draw took place afterwards and the winners were;

1st Prize – Declan Boyle, Ardconnell, Glenties, 2nd Prize – Karen at 073-23860, 3rd Prize – M.T. Gillespie, Ardara.

The death took place in Glasgow of Mary Anne Mulhern formerly of Lugnagillew, Glenties. Her remains came to The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Wednesday and burial took place in Edeninfagh Cemetery after Requiem Mass on Thursday. Her brother Patrick and sister Susan predeceased her. Mary Anne worked for several years in Mc Devitt’s Knitwear Factory, Glenties (where the Furniture Store is now) before she went to Scotland. Sincere sympathy is extended to her nieces, sister-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Danny Mc Gill, Glen Road, Glenties on the death of his brother Thomas Mc Gill, Scadaman, Ardara, which took place in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar on Monday 4th December 2000. His remains were brought to The Church of the Holy Family, Ardara on Tuesday and burial took place in the adjoining Cemetery after Requiem Mass on Wednesday.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Denis Diver, Fintown, who died in Letterkenny Hospital on Wednesday 6thDecember 2000. Requiem Mass was celebrated in St. Colmcille’s Church, Fintown on Saturday and burial took place in the adjoining

Congratulations to Noreen Mc Guinness, Jewellery Designer, Ard Patrick, and Pedro Soltani, Glen Road, Glenties, who recently opened a restaurant on Main Street, who were among the Award winners at the Bank of Ireland Nick Love Enterprise Awards function held recently in Jackson’s Hotel, Ballybofey.

A Craft Fair is being held in the Highlands Hotel next Sunday 17th December from 12 noon until 5p.m. Local crafts people will display hand-made goods, which would make ideal Christmas gifts. Book a table early as space is limited. Contact Brendan at 075-44027.

A concert in aid of Concern, featuring a host of local talent will be held in the Highlands Hotel on Saturday next 16th December at 8.30p.m. Tickets are £4.00, senior citizens and children – £2.00.
