Glenties Notes on June 10th 2004

Congratulations and best wishes for many more years among us, to Maggie Gallagher (nee Mc Kelvey), Stranaglough, Glenties, who celebrated her 90th Birthday on the 1st June.

Congratulations to Neilie and Maggie O’ Donnell, Meenahalla, Glenties, who celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary last week.

The launch of Naomh Conaill G.A.A. 2004 Members Draw takes place in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Friday 18th June at 9.30p.m. County player Adrian Sweeney will be a special guest on the night. Light refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome.

The Corpus Christi Procession is a continuation of the Celebration of the Eucharist. Immediately after Mass the Sacred Host, consecrated during the Mass, is borne out of the Church to allow the Christian faithful to “make public profession of faith and worship of the Most Blessed Sacrament”. Next Sunday 13th June, we will have our Annual Corpus Christi Procession in Glenties after 11a.m. Mass from the Church to the Grotto for Benediction (weather permitting). The people who are usually involved in the carrying of the canopy are asked to make themselves available, as well as those who usually steward the procession. The First Holy Communion children are invited to walk in the Procession in their First Holy Communion Dress.

With the exception of very few years the Corpus Christi Procession has been ongoing in Glenties for over 60 years. Sadly the numbers in the Procession have dwindled over the years.

St. Anthony’s Feast of the Lilies Mass will be celebrated in Rossnowlagh next Sunday 13th June. A bus will be leaving Mc Guinness’ Café at 6.30p.m.
