Glenties Notes on June 6th 2000

WEDDING
On Friday 28th April Finola Bonner and Niall Quinn were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Pat. Prendergast P.P. Glenties, officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Finola is the eldest daughter of Neil and Teresa Bonner, Ard Patrick, and Niall is a son of Larry and Jean Quinn, Ardboe, Co. Tyrone. The bride was given away by both her parents and she
was attended by her two sisters Deirdre and Emily. Martin Quinn, friend of the groom was bestman, and Paul Quinn, brother of the groom was groomsman. Conor Quinn, nephew of the groom was pageboy. The readings were read by Inez and Jonathan Gallagher, niece and nephew of the groom. The prayers of the faithful were read by nieces and nephews of the bride and groom. The grooms parents brought the Gifts to the Alter. The reception was held in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties and the honeymoon was spent in Lanzorote.

Pioneer Mass
A special Pioneer Mass was celebrated in St. Connell’s Church on Wednesday 24th May. Fr. Nigel O Gallachóir, Spiretual Director presented Gold Pins to both John and Neillie Doherty, Ardmagill,  a gold pin each to Margaret M.O’Donnell, Ardconnell, Paddy O’Donnell, Derries, Bried Duffy, Main Street, (President and Treasure of the Centre). Silver Pins and Diplomas were presented to Anne Bonner, Glen Road, and Mary Josephine O’Donnell, Ardconnell. Young people who received pins and certificates in the Full Membership, ‘Young Pioneer& Junior’ sections were John and Christine Gallagher, Narin Road, James Gallagher, Ardpatrick, Shaun McGill, Tullyard Road, Garvin McDwyer, Station Road, Evan BOnner Glen Road, Tracy McCahill, Derries.

Ceilí
There will be a ceilí in the Limelight,Glenties, on Sunday 11th June. Dancing from 10pm to 1am, music by the Art Mc Nally Trio (Derry).Admission £4 including supper.

Graveyard Mass
The Graveyard Mass will be celebrated in the New Graveyard, Glenties on Sunday 30th of July at 3.00pm.

CHURCH OF IRELAND DANCE
The Glenties Church of Ireland Supper Dance will be held in the Highlands Hotel on Friday 16th of June, music by Cannon & Ramsey Band, supper served at 9.00pm. Tickets on sale locally at £8.00, your support will be greatly appreciated.

WALK
For those interested in a nice walk this evening, Thursday. The route planned is in the Ardara area, partly along the Ownea River. Altogether walking time will be an hour and half. Runners will suffice for this walk. We will pool cars for the journey to the starting point, so please meet at the Community Centre, Glenties, at no later than 7.30pm. This walk is organised by Women Together, but everyone is welcome to join in for the walk. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
