Glenties Notes on November 15th 2000

Congratulations to Breda Mc Nulty who recently graduated with a B.A. degree in Economics from University College, Dublin. She is continuing her studies at Dublin City University. Breda is a daughter of Anne (formerly Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties) and Hughie Mc Nulty, Lough Eske, Donegal.

Congratulations to John and Phonsie O’ Donnell who completed the New York marathon recently. John’s time was 3hrs 35mins and Phonsie’s was 3hrs 39mins. Both are sons of Neilie and Annie O’ Donnell, Meenadina, Glenties.

Congratulations to young athlete, Mary Mc Loone, Cleengort who received “Best Sports Girl” Award at the 24th Annual Donegal Sports Star Awards in the Silver Tassie, Letterkenny recently.

The annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party will take place on Friday 1st December. An open invitation is extended to all the Senior Citizens of the Parish.

Applications are invited for the post of Special Needs Childcare Assistant at Scoil Mhuire. The post is full-time and qualifications in childcare would be beneficial. Please submit application along with relevant C.V. on or before Saturday 18th November to:- The Chairman, B.O.M., Scoil Mhuire.

The death took place recently in Corby, England of Patrick Mc Cahill formerly of Loch na Cruiche, Glenties. Sincere sympathy is extended to all his relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family of Paddy Mc Elhinney, Station Road (formerly Meenahalla and Ard Patrick), whose death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Sunday night last.

Local vocalists will be taking part in the Co. Donegal Millennium Choral Celebration which takes place in St. Eunan’s Cathedral, Letterkenny on Sunday 26th November at 7.30 p.m. Jim Rafferty will direct the Massed Choirs of Co. Donegal.

The raffle, which was to take place on October 31st, has been postponed until 10th December. Tickets are still on sale. Minister for Tourism & Sport Dr. James Mc Daid will launch the Bluestack Way, on December 10th in The Highlands Hotel. This waymarked walk will be a major tourist attraction for southwest Donegal. There are already many enquiries from groups intending to do this walk in the 2001 season.

The annual Fireman’s Ball takes place on Friday 24th November in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties. Music is by F.M. Sound.
