Glenties Notes on October 6th 2005

The death took place in Brindley Manor Nursing Home, Convoy on Saturday 24th September 2005 of Joe Boyle, Mullanmore, Glenties. His remains were brought home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Monday 26th September. Fr. Paul Gallagher, C.C. Glenties assisted by Fr. Denis Quinn P.P. Falcarragh celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Joe’s nephews, Terence and Pat Mc Cormack. James and Joseph Boyle and Nina Boyle, wife of Joe’s nephew, John Boyle, brought the Gifts to the Altar. Fr. Denis gave the homily. Music and singing was by Sr. Immaculata and Nora Gallagher. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Four brothers, Paddy, John, Danny and Hughie and two sisters Bridget and Mary predeceased him. He is survived by two brothers, Anthony, Mullanmore and James, Scotland, nieces, nephews, sister-in-law, Margaret, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

The annual Fiddlers Weekend starts next Friday 7th October and continues through Sunday 9th. Fiddlers and other musicians from all over the country and beyond will be in town for the occasion. Free fiddle classes will be given on Saturday between noon and 1.00p.m. The annual bus tour to landmarks of fiddling in the Glenties area will also take place. If you are a fan of traditional music then Glenties is the place to be this weekend.

Best wishes to our senior team for the replay with St. Eunan’s next Sunday at 3.30p.m. in Ballybofey and best wishes for a speedy recovery to Conal Mc Nelis who was injured in last Sunday’s game.
