Naomh Conaill Notes 19th May 2009

The Naomh Conaill GAA club and the Glenties youth club have combined together to launch the Naomh Conaill GAA & Glenties Youth club Alcohol & Substance Abuse Policy, ASAP, which is encouraged under the the GAA ASAP programme on the 17th May 2009. This will essentially be an educational awareness programme with regard to Alcohol & Substance Abuse. This policy was put together with the help of the leaders/parents from the youth club and special praise must go to the young people from the under 16s, minors and ladies teams from the Naomh Conaill GAA club who helped give their views and ideas with regard to this policy. The local Gardai have approved and supported this policy and are willing to help promote this policy within the town. The Limelight nightclub has also supported this policy and the clubs wish to thank them for their co-operation. This programme will get underway in the coming weeks and will be an ongoing initative in the Glenties community from both the Naomh Conaill GAA club and the Glenties Youth club.

There was no winner of last weeks lotto.Two prizes of 50 Euro went to Declan Boyle, Glenties and Joe Mc Closkey, Glenties.The numbers drawn were 1,4,6,8.The jackpot now stands at 2,500 Euro.The draw now takes place every Tuesday night at the Bingo in the community centre.
Good luck to the Seniors and Reserves who are at home to Buncrana in the 1st leg of the championship this Sunday at 1.30pm and 3pm.Both teams had league victories at home to Killybegs last Sunday.The Reserves won 3-06 to 1-06 and the Seniors came out on top 1-13 to 0-08.

The Third team drew away to Glenfin last Saturday evening 0-11 to 2-05.

The minors had victories last week away to Dungloe and Killybegs.They beat Dungloe last Wednesday 1-10 to 1-5 and they followed that up on Friday beating Killybegs 1-13 to 15.They are at home to N Mhuire this Wednesday 20th May at 7pm.

The U16s play Cloughaneely in the Co League semi final this Friday at 7.30pm in Ardara.

The U12s had a convincing win against St Nauls in Mounthcharles last Wednesday.This was the last game of the league section of the championship where they finished in 1st place and have now qualified for the Regional semi final where they will meet Aodh Ruadh this Friday in Ballintra at 7pm.

The Minor Board hosted the Souther Blitz last Saturday and the visting clubs were Naomh Mhuire, Four Masters and Naomh Ultan.Despite some heavy downpours the blitz was a great success with the host club winning both the A and B blitzes. Thanks to 2 of our official referees Brian and Connie for officiating at the games, to the parents who helped with the catering and all who assisted in any way. The next blitz is in Bundoran on the 6th of June.
