Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 14th December 2010

The members finally got out on the links again last Sunday after a long hiatus due to snow and ice, and, after a chilly start, the large field enjoyed competing for the prestigious Christmas Hamper. Mark Diver proved triumphant on the day, pipping Jimmy Cunningham to the goodies with a five under par 68.

Barney Cunningham was the winner of last Friday’s senior outing with a score of 32 points and goes into the lead in the overall competition with just two competitions remaining. Paddy Boyle took the silver medal position, beating Michael Naughton on a break of tie with both on 30 points. Manus Boyle had the best score so far in the tournament when he carded an excellent 35 points in the previous 16 hole competition to win by 3 points from Joe Conneely. The top of the table in the overall competition shows Barney Cunningham 35; Paddy Boyle 31; Manus Boyle 29; Denis Carbery and Micheál McGinley on 28 each. The overall prize is counted on the winner of a weekly competition receiving 10 points descending to tenth place getting one point. Weather permitting we intend to have an outing on Friday, December 17th and the final outing and presentation of prizes is scheduled for Thursday, December 23rd with tee booked each day from 10a.m. to 11a.m.

A re-scheduling of events is required and the postponed Christmas Cracker will now be played on Wednesday, December 22nd. This free single stableford event will feature a shotgun start at 11a.m. and is closed to members. The Christmas Party will commence with music on that day at 4p.m., followed by a buffet and the presentation of hampers and turkeys won in November and December.

The Annual General Meeting will be held in the clubhouse on Wednesday, December 29th commencing at 5.30p.m. It will be preceded by an E.G.M. starting at 5p.m. in which the members will vote on the newly updated constitution. This document will be posted in the clubhouse from Wednesday, December 15th. The club’s financial report will also be displayed in the clubhouse from December 15th, along with the Nomination Sheet for Council and the Motions Sheet. All Full Members are invited to attend.
