Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 27th July 2011

What a difference a week makes… last Sundays competition cancelled due to terrible weather and this Sundays competition enjoyed in splendid sunshine.

The P G Harkin Construction sponsored competition produced a lot of low scoring with the top three scores closer together than three coats of paint.

Ronnie Hill finished top of the heap with 41points – out in 19 with a blank at the fifth, he turned on the style on the tougher back nine to accumulate 22 points for a winning score of 41points. Commiserations to El Presidente and Mickey Campbell beaten on bot.

Sunday July 24th 1. Ronnie Hill (19) 41pts bot 2. Bart Whelan (14) 41pts bot 3. Mickey Campbell (12) 41pts bot Cat A: Donnie Mc Cole (9) 37pts bot Cat B: Paul Maxwell (13) 40pts Cat C: Patrick Gallagher (20) 38pts bot 1st nine Brendan Quinn (17) 21pts 2nd nine Seamus Tully (21) 20pts bot.

Lady Captains  Prize  for the men was played for on Wednesday July 20th and again good scoring and good weather went hand in hand. 1. Sean Callaghan (19) 39pts bot 2. Daniel Mc Geehan (16) 39pts bot 3. Michael Glynn (19) 38pts. Our gallant Ulster Cup team made what for them was a short trip to Foyle G.C. for the first leg of the last eight in the competition.

There were a lot of close matches that just didn’t go our way on the day but I’m sure the lads will be thinking of their home form this year which has been remarkable and will face into the second leg full of self belief. As their team captain would say, “break a leg”!

Please make a note in your diary that a presentation of prizes will take place in the clubhouse on Saturday 6th August at 9pm sharp!
