ARD CONNELL 60 – 4th – 6th June 2010

All roads lead to Ard Connell, Glenties, on the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend, 4th – 6th June, for the Ard Connell 60 celebrations. A very warm welcome is extended to all the community to join with us in our special celebration.

Ard Connell, horseshoe-shaped with the unique feature of the “height” in the middle, was built in 1949/1950, and opened in April 1950. A lively place in the early days with over one hundred children playing on the ‘height’ at one time, it has now matured in to a beautifully landscaped estate in which residents’ pride in the area is most visually evident in its upkeep. Much credit is due to the generations of residents and those others who have worked tirelessly on creating and maintaining such a lovely environment to grow up and live in.

During this weekend, we remember with great affection and with happy memories all who have lived in Ard Connell and are sadly no longer with us. We also look forward to welcoming back our “old” friends and neighbours, many of whom are travelling great distances to be with us.

The weekend will start with open-air Mass in Ard Connell on the Friday evening at 8.30pm, after which light refreshments will be made available and entertainment will be provided by Sean Mc Monagle. Saturday afternoon will be a family fun day with bouncy castles, games and other activities for children. The highlight of the weekend is the Dinner Dance on Saturday night in the Highlands Hotel, with dinner served at 8.00pm followed by dancing to Sean Mc Monagle. A limited number of tickets are still available directly from Annette Mc Gettigan (087 6451620) or they may be booked through any Committee member. For those who have booked tickets, please collect them as soon as possible. Limited admission may be available to the dance only. Entertainment suitable for all the family will again be provided on the Sunday afternoon. A photographic exhibition will be on display in Scoil Mhuire N.S. Gym on Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

In order to obtain maximum enjoyment from the outdoor events, it is recommended that you wear sun screen and midge repellent for protection against uninvited guests!
All are welcome to join us in these celebrations as we look forward to reliving many happy memories of times past in Ard Connell.
