Glenties Notes 11th January 2012

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in The Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 3rd January were – Brown Kid won the Jackpot of € 400. Grace O’ Hara won € 200. May Kennedy, Kilraine, Mary Whelan, Ardara, Rosemary Whelan, Mickie Herron, Denise Maguire, B. Fitzpatrick, Patricia White, P. Hegarty, and R. Gallagher won € 100 each. Anthony Byrne, Bernadette Gallagher, Nellie Maguire, Margaret Gillespie, Katie Mc Glynn, Kate Mc Nerney, A. Doherty and Kathleen Griffin won € 50 each. Patsy Browne won € 40. Margaret Gallagher and Rose Cunningham won € 25 each.

Wedding Bells
Congratulations to Rose Boyle, Glenties and Sean O’ Donnell, Dungloe, who were married in Glenties on Wednesday 28th December 2011.

Donoghue / Molloy Wedding
Thomas Donoghue and Ann Molloy, both from Glenties were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday 30th December 2011. Fr. Pat Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Thomas is a son of Cathal and Bernie Donoghue and Ann is a daughter of Pat and Patricia Molloy. Her brother David gave the bride away and she was attended by her cousin Deirdre Mc Hugh, Gillian Fallon, friend, and Donna Donoghue, sister of the groom. Brendan Mc Dyer, cousin of the groom was bestman. Marty Boyle and Stephen Bonner were groomsmen. Readings were by Martin Mc Dyer, uncle of the groom and Raymond Molloy, brother of the bride. Patricia Molloy and Bernie Donoghue, mothers of the bride and groom, brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Patrick Molloy and Deirdre Mc Gill. Reflections were read by Caoimhe Mc Grenra, niece of the groom and David Muldoon, brother-in-law of the bride. The reception was held in Castle Murray House, Hotel, St. John’s Point and the honeymoon is being spent in Australia.

Boyce / Haughey Wedding
The marriage of Shaun Boyce and Amy Haughey took place in the Church of the Holy Family, Ardara on Wednesday 28th December 2011. Fr. Pat Prendergast officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Shaun is a son of John and Bridie Boyce, Mullinamina, Glenties and Amy is a daughter of Jimmy and Ann Haughey, Brackey, Ardara. Her father gave the bride away and her friend Geraldine Gavigan and her cousin Tara Coleman attended her. Shaun’s brother, Stephen was bestman and James Greenwood, cousin, was groomsman. Rachel and Jamie Boyce were flowergirl and pageboy. Readings were by Ann Boyce, sister of the groom and Liam Haughey, uncle of the bride. Sophie Dunnion, Frankie Cullen, Laura Walker, Loraine Molloy, Serena Shovlin and Mary Gallagher read Prayers of the Faithful. Ann Haughey and Bridie Boyce, mothers if the bride and groom, brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by James O’Malley, Deirdre Mc Gill, Bridget Molloy and Rory Gildea. The reception was held in An Grianan Hotel, Burt and the honeymoon was spent touring.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Detective Garda Dave Moore, based in Glenties, on the recent death of his wife, Veronica, which took place unexpectedly in her native place, Ballindine, Co. Mayo, where she had been visiting. She was buried there on Friday 23rd December 2011. The couple lived for a time in Glenties before moving to Letterkenny.

Glenties Community Playgroup /Afterschool Christmas Hamper Draw
Prize Winners were – 1st Prize – Large Hamper – Aidan O’Donnell; 2nd Prize – Glenside Hamper – Martina Molloy; 3rd Prize – Medium Hamper – Molloy Byrne; 4th Prize – Meal Voucher for the Highlands Hotel – Orla McDevitt; 5th Prize – Handmade Soap Gift Set – Mary Doran; 6th prize – Handmade Christmas Cake – Mairead McGeehan. A sincere thanks to all the parents who contributed to the Christmas Draw, ensuring it was a huge success. Thanks to the staff at the fire station and also to Santa for making an appearance

Sing for Fun
Sing for fun Choral Group will resume at 8 p.m. on Thursday 12th January in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties. All members are asked to attend and new members are more than welcome. Looking forward to seeing you all.

Collection
The Pro-Life collection taken up recently amounted to € 605. Sincere thanks to all who contributed.

Church Crib
This year the money collected in the collection box at the Crib will be donated to Maria Rafferty’s work in Ethiopia.
