Glenties Notes 17th July 2008

Congratulations to Fiona and John Boyle, Main Street, Glenties on the birth recently of their third child, a baby sister (Emer) for Emma and Ellie.

Congratulations to Pauline and John Paul Gallagher Kilraine, Glenties on the birth recently of their third child, a baby brother (Aidan) for Callum and Paul.

Congratulations to Kathleen Bonner and Chad Leafer, North Carolina on the birth on the 1st July 2008 of their first child, a baby boy (Charlie, Byron). Kathleen is a daughter of Neily and Barbara Bonner, Straboy, Glenties.

The annual walk in aid of Kidney Dialysis Comfort Fund takes place next Saturday 19th July. It will leave the Glen Tavern at noon going by Edeninfagh, The Croaghs and Tangavane. Why not join in and see some of our lovely countryside while at the same time supporting this very worthy cause. For further information ring 074 9551170 or 9557978.

The Olive Tree Restaurant is now open in the Dolmen Centre, Kilclooney at weekends – Friday 7.00 p.m. ~ 9.30 p.m. Saturday 5.00 p.m. ~ 9.30 p.m. and Sunday 3 00 p.m. ~ 9.30 p.m. “Why not come and sample our homemade Fayre with a little Italian Flair”.

The winners of the recent “Jan Mc Geehan Memorial Fishing Competition on Lough Finn are as follows – 1st Rebecca Wright, Loughnabradden, Fintown. 2nd Ann Quinn, Loughmuck, Fintown and 3rd James Quinn, Loughmuck, Fintown. Cumann Iascairi Bhaile na Finne would like to thank Michael Mc Geehan for his continued sponsorship of this annual competition. Thanks also to the large number of anglers who took part in the competition and to the Railway Inn Bar for the refreshments afterwards. Next Sunday 20th July the Seniors Open Competition will take place from 12 noon until 6.00p.m. with valuable prizes. Everyone is welcome.

Congratulations and best wishes to Breid Brennan and Kenneth Finnigan, Dundalk who were married in the Church of the Holy Family, Ardara on Saturday 12th July 2008. Breid is a daughter of Sean and Margaret Brennan, Doohill, Ardara (formerly Glen Road, Glenties).

A Medugorje Peace Mass will be celebrated in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday 24th July at 8.00p.m. Everyone is welcome.

The Donegal Hospice Church Gate Collection taken recently in Glenties amounted to 1,571.04 Euro and in Edeninfagh it amounted to 218.96 Euro. Thanks to the collectors and to all who contributed.

Plans are afoot at Edeninfagh NS to commemorate the school’s 70th Anniversary in October this year. The staff are currently compiling a history of the school and would appreciate the help of former students. If anyone has photos, stories and items of interest from the past, we would be grateful if you could contact Mary Quinn at the Glen Tavern. If you feel you would like to contribute to the arranging of the 70th Celebration could you also contact Mary Quinn.
