Glenties Notes 18th March 2010

Bingo
Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 9th March were – James Byrne, Maas, Glenties won the Jackpot of €400. Ann Boyle, Station Road, John Boyle, Fintown, Michael Langan, Fintown, Peter Sweeney, Kelly Harrington, Bridie Gallagher, Killybegs, Margaret Rodger, Ann Whyte and Philomena McCallaig won €100 each. Jean Boyle, Ardara, John Molloy, Fintown, Bridie Gallagher, Killybegs, Mrs. Monaghan, Norah Gallagher, R. Melly, Patrick Molloy and Dim Melly won € 50 each. Kathleen Boyle, Kilclooney, James Deane, Kilcar, Jimmy Quinn, Brocagh, James Byrne, Maas, P. Mc Gill, Ann Whyte, Leticia Doherty, Patsy Mc Dyer, Michael Doherty, Kilcar and James Gallagher won €25 each.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Kitty Clancy, (nee Mc Devitt, Glenties) who died last week in Pagetown, Maynooth. After Requiem Mass in Kilcloon Church, Co. Meath the remains were brought to Kilclooney, Portnoo graveyard for burial. Kitty was a sister of the late Mary Ellen Mc Devitt, Tullyard Road, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Rosaleen and Sean Mc Nelis, Dorrian, Glenties on the death of Rosaleen’s sister, Mary Mc Nulty, which took place in New York last week; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Dermot Mc Hugh, Drimnacrosh and Eileen Gallagher, The Mines and Mary Furey, Kilraine on the sudden death of their brother, Neil Mc Hugh, Frosses which took place last week; also the all the relatives and friends.

Breid Gannon
The death took place on Tuesday 9th March 2010, after a short illness, in Castlebar Hospital of Breid Gannon, Narin Road, Glenties. Her remains were brought to her home on Wednesday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00 a.m. Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and the carrying of the Gifts were by members of the extended family. Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell. Burial took place in Westport, Co. Mayo. Breid is survived by one daughter, Kathleen, brother, Willie Mc Nelis, two sisters, Sadie Herrighty and Margaret Campbell, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Breid spent a good part of her life in England but she and her husband Joe (a native of Mayo) decided to come back to Ireland and make their home on Narin Road beside her brother Willie. Sadly, Joe died before their new home was built, but Bried and her daughter Kathleen came to live there a number of years ago.

Les Misérables
Excitement is building in St. Columba’s Comprehensive as the dates for the School Musical Les Misérables draw near. Les Misérables has been described as one of the greatest musicals ever written. The performance dates are April 9th, 10th, 11th, 16th, 17th starting at 8 p.m. nightly. Tickets can be booked at 074 9551172.

First Holy Communion
Children from St. Riaghan’s N.S. Drimnacrosh, Kilkenny N.S. and Scoil Mhuire will receive their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 24th April at 11.00a.m. Children from Edeninfagh N.S. will receive their First Holy Communion at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday 25th April.

Penitential Service
There will be a Penitential Service for the First Holy Communion children and their families on Wednesday 24th March in the Small Chapel at 8.00 p.m. The Penitential Service will be followed by First Confession in the Big Chapel.

Glenties Community Television
Transmission of Channel 4 has resumed with a much improved output and reception being received. It is now hoped that similar receptions will apply to the other channels in the very near future. In order to maintain this facility, it will be necessary to collect €20 per household. This will be carried out by members of the committee in the coming weeks. Payment can also be made to Eunan Mc Glinchey at Mc Glinchey’s Shop, Main Street.

Childreach
Aine Scott will be climbing Kilimanjaro for this charity. As part of the fundraising there will be a Book & Cake Sale in the Community Centre on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st March. Aine would be grateful for your support or donation. Contact 9551430. Thank You.

Table Quiz
A Table Quiz will be held in Paddy’s Bar, Glenties on Friday 19th March at 9.00p.m. in aid of the Naomh Conaill Ladies Club. € 20 per table. Your support would be very much appreciated.

Kilkenny N.S. Enrolment
Enrolment is currently taking place at Kilkenny N.S. for new pupils beginning in September 2010. Enrolment forms and further information available at the school. Tel. 9544270.

Lesser Spotted Ulster
Lesser Spotted Ulster with Joe Mahon will be coming from Fintown on Tuesday 23rd March on UTV at 8.00 p.m. This is a Repeat of the programme shown already.

Community Pitch
The Community Pitch at Beaghmore, Fintown will be opened by Pat The Cope Gallagher and Mary Coughlan on Sunday 16th May at 12 Noon.
