Glenties Notes 25th March 2010

New Arrivals
Congratulations to Michelle and David Molloy, Narin Road, Glenties on the birth on the 17th March 2010 of their second child, a baby sister (Eábha) for Daithí.

Congratulations to Maria and Stephen Mc Dermott, Altar, Glenties on the birth on Thursday 18th March 2010 of their second child, a baby sister (Seoirse) for Aoife.

Degree
Congratulations to Martina Hanlon, who graduated with a First Class Degree in Bachelor of Business and International Culinary Enterprise. She also received ‘Best Student Award’. Martina is a daughter of Danny and Mary Mc Dermott, Meenagrubby, Glenties.

Bingo
Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 16th March were – Marian Davison, Burtonport won the Jackpot of € 400. Nancy Dorrian, Shaun Maloney, Ardara, Cassie Long, Fintown, James Deane, Kilcar, Ann Davison, Burtonport, Bridget Mc Cabe, Frosses, Margaret Melly, Leitir and Hugh Gallagher won € 100 each. Maura Kilbane, Ardara, Nabla Furey, Glenties, Angela Martin, Leitir, Jean Boyle, Ardara, Maureen Gildea, Glenties, Vincent Ward, Annie Deane, Kilcar, Liam Furey, Sarah Gallagher, Breid Gallagher, John O’ Donnell, Margaret O’Donnell, Hugh Gallagher and Paula Hegarty won € 50 each. Phil Mc Kelvey, Fintown and Margo Gallagher won € 25 each.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Anna Alt (nee Boyle) who died in Castlebar on Saturday 6th March 2010. Anna was the daughter of Peggy and the late John Boyle, Meenalig, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Jimmy (the Twin) Sweeney) who died peacefully at his home on Saturday night 20th March 2010.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Breid Furey and family on the death of Breid’s nephew, Finian Reilly, Co. Dublin who died recently and to all the relatives and friends.

Glenties Road Upgrading in 2010
Cllr. Slowey welcomes the allocation of the following roads monies in the Glenties area in 2010 – 1. Three short sections (1200metres) of the Glen of Glenties Road, damaged by bad winter (€ 75,000), 2. Kilrean Clusai road 1500 metres surface dress (two sections) (€ 31,500), 3. Drumalough Bridge, Glenties. New metal parapets to increase width and straighten approach roads (€ 20,000), 4. Fintown Road. Short section before Straboy (€ 21,500), 5. Derryloghan Cleengort: Patch and surface dress extended sections (€ 31,500), 6. Meenalargan. From the regional road. Patch and surface dress extended sections (€ 31,500), 7. Meenagolan. Surface dressing an 800 metre section at a cost of € 18,000, 8. Kingarrow Bridge: € 40,000 upgrading, 9. Ballinamore Bridge € 45.000 to reconstruct a collapsed bridge, 10. Fintown. Lough Muck. Surface dressing (approximately 1,400 metres) at a cost of € 31,500. 11. Millwheel – Ballinamore road. Surface dress (800 metres) of roadway at a cost of € 36,000, 12. Meenagowan – Elliott’s Bar (400 metres) of road to be surface dressed at a cost of € 10, 500, 13. Doochary / Fintown. A short (400 metres) section of R252 close to Doochary to be surfaced – dressed at a cost of € 18,000, 14. Largnalarkin. Surface dress (450 metres) of road at a cost of in excess of € 10,000, 15. Meenatawney. Surface dress (1400 metres) of road at a cost of € 31,500, 16. Meenasrone. Surface dress (600Metres) of road at a cost of € 13,500.

Parish Council
There will be a Meeting of Glenties Parish Council, which will include a very interesting Sustainable Energy Demonstration on Thursday 25th March in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties at 9.00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Playschool Enrolment
All parents wishing to enrol their child / children for the September 2010 term please call to the playschool between 9.30 a.m. – 10.30 a.m. from Monday 22nd until Friday 26th March, to register your child. Children born between 2nd February 2006 and 30th June 2007 will qualify for Free Playschool Year. Any queries please contact Bridie Mc Cahill at 9551907.
