Glenties Notes 25th March 2011

The Late Annie O’Donnell
The death took place in Killybegs Hospital, on Monday 14th March 2011 of Annie O’Donnell, Meenahalla, Glenties. Her Remains were brought to her home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast, Glenties, assisted by Fr. Willie Peoples, Donegal Town and Fr. Eamonn Mc Laughlin, Lettermacaward and Doochary concelebrated Requiem Mass. Grandchildren did the Readings and Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by a granddaughter and a neighbour of Annie’s. Music and singing was by John F. and Pat O’Donnell. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Annie is survived by one son, Brendan, two daughters, Mary and Helena, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Her husband Phil died 25 years ago. Her brothers Packie and Joe Ward also predeceased her. Annie was 103 years old and was in very good health until quite recently.

The Late Hugh Gallagher
The death took place in Killybegs Hospital on Friday 18th March 2011 of Hugh Gallagher, Ardconnell, Glenties. His Remains were brought to his home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday morning. Fr. Shane Gallagher celebrated Requiem Mass at 11.00 a.m. Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Hugh is survived by one sister, Teresa, two nephews, one niece, grandnieces, grandnephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. One sister, Mary and two brothers, Oliver and Con predeceased him.

Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation for the Parish of Iniskeel will be administered by Bishop Philip Boyce for 5th & 6th Classes in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday 10th April at 11.00 a.m.

First Holy Communion
Children from Kilkenny N.S. and Scoil Mhuire will receive their First Holy Communion in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 7th May at 11a.m. Mass.

Bingo
Winners at the Bingo on Tuesday 15th March 2011 in the Community Centre, Glenties were – Shaun Moloney won the Jackpot of € 400. Anne Furey, Margaret Gillespie, Bridie Boyle, Eileen Hanlon, Eileen Hanlon, Leitir, Nancy Gale, Eileen Gallagher and Amy Calrey won € 100 each. Kitty Mc Glynn, Fintown, Ann Mc Hugh, Glengesh, Ardara, Isobel Mc Loone, Bridie Boyle, Anne Kennedy, Brenda Reid, Nora Mc Hugh and James Gallagher won € 50. Nellie Maguire, Frosses, Denise Campbell, Winnie Long, Fintown, John Boyle, Denise Campbell, Bella Boyle, Fiona Gallagher, and Lisa Coughlan won € 25 each. Bernadette Gallagher, Frosses, Jean Mc Kelvey and Margaret Melly won € 20 each.

Naomh Conaill Ladies
Naomh Conaill Ladies are taking part in the Tesco (Vouchers for Clubs and Schools). Everyone who shops in Tesco will receive one voucher for every € 10 they spend. If you wish to donate the vouchers you receive, please give them to any committee member or leave them in the Craft Gallery.

‘Guess the Score’
The Club would also like to thank all those who sold or bought lines for ‘Guess the Score’ in support of the Donegal County Ladies Teams. A cheque for € 310 was handed over to the County Board.

Thanks
The recent collection for Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, taken up in Glenties amounted to € 442.00. The amount taken up in Edeninfagh was € 114.00. Many thanks for your generosity.

Get Fit for Summer
Ladies Adult Circuits Classes will start in the Gym, Scoil Mhuire, Glenties next Friday 25th March from 7.30 p.m. until 8.30 p.m. € 40 for ten weeks. Contact Aoife Mc Donnell on 087 1245587. Beginners are welcome.

Glenties Golf Society
The Glenties Golf Society are holding their first outing this Saturday 26th March in Narin / Portnoo. Teeing off at 8.30 a.m. It is hoped that all members will attend. Names are also been taken on the day for our upcoming Weekend away in Concra Wood Golf Club on the Weekend of Saturday and Sunday 21st and 22nd of May.

Edeninfagh N.S. Cash for Clobber
Collection will take place at the school on Thursday 14th April. The school will receive € 4 for each well filled ‘Cash for Clobber bag’ (available at the school) or bin size bag. Money collected will go towards school funds. Filled bags can be brought to the school from Monday 11th until Thursday morning 14th April. This collection is an opportunity for anyone in the community to dispose of unwanted clothes, shoes or textiles in an environmentally friendly way. Annual Uganda Collection
The St. Vincent de Paul Society will take up the Annual Uganda Collection before all Masses on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March. All proceeds will fund education and agricultural projects. Please give as generously as you can. Thank You.
