Glenties Notes 3rd June 2010

Corpus Christi Procession
The Annual Corpus Christi Procession will take place after the 11 a.m. Mass next Sunday 6th June from the Church to the Grotto (weather permitting). The people who are usually involved in the carrying the canopy are asked to make themselves available, as well as those who usually steward the procession. The First Holy Communion Children are invited to walk in the Procession in their First Holy Communion Dress.

Alzheimer’s Tea Day
Ann O’ Donnell would to thank all who helped with, and contributed in any way to the recent Alzheimer’s Tea Day. A total of € 1,000 was raised for a very worthy cause.

Glenties Area Cyclists
After a very successful meeting held last Monday night, it was decided that we hold cycle runs for adults of all levels on Wednesday at 8.00 p.m. and on Sunday mornings at 8.30 a.m. starting at the Community Centre.

Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 25th May were – Dim Melly won the Jackpot of € 400. Paula Hegarty, Josie Martin, Sally Mc Hugh, Patricia Molloy, Liz Buckley, Qwen Ward, Kathleen Boyle and Anne Kennedy won € 100 each. Kathleen Griffin, Claire Keeney, Elaine Byrne, Kathleen Mc Glynn, Christine Mc Cool, Vincent Granaghan, Anne Kennedy, James Deane, Anne Mc Dyre and Ellen Mc Dyre won € 50 each. Mary Mc Hugh, Glenties and Bridie Boyle, Glenties won € 25 each.

Boyle / Ward Wedding
Cathal Boyle and Linda Ward were married in St. Columba’s Church, Burtonport on Saturday 15th May 2010. Fr. John Joe Duffy officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Cathal is a son of Dee and the late Neil Boyle, Ardconnell, Glenties and Linda is a daughter of Anthony and Bernie Ward, Burtonport. The bride was given away by her father and she was attended by Catherine Coyle, Emma Ward, Noelle Ward, Grainne Boyle and Helen Mc Garvey. Collie Bonner, friend of the groom was bestman and Neil Bonner, Patrick Ward, Declan Boyle and Gerard Mc Fadden were groomsmen. Niece and nephew of the groom, Katie Boyle and Neil Francis Boyle were flowergirl and pageboy. Readings were by Neil Boyle, brother of the groom and Michelle Boyle, cousin of the bride. Michela Boyle, Aine Mc Gill, Megan Bonner and Katlyn Boyle read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by the bride’s mother Bernie Ward and the groom’s aunt, Mary Dempsey. Music and singing was by Paula Diver. The reception was held in the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenny and the honeymoon was spent in Spain.

Neilie Bonner
The death took place in the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny on Tuesday 25th May 2010 of Neilie Bonner, Ard Patrick, Glenties. His remains were brought to his home later that evening and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Shane Gallagher assisted by Fr. John Mc Loone, Fr. Denis Quinn and Fr. Paul Gallagher concelebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Brian Mc Devitt (brother-in-law) and Kevin Kelly (son-in-law). Other family members read Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music was by Pat and John F. O’ Donnell and Sinead Finn. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Neilie is survived by his wife, Teresa, daughters, Finola, Deirdre and Emily, sons, John, Michael and Neil, sisters, Angela Campbell, Kathleen Bonner and Bried Mc Devitt, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Two baby daughters Grainne and Claire and one sister, Nancy Mc Loone predeceased him.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to Breid Gavigan, Narin Road, Glenties on the death on Friday 28th May 2010 of her mother, Frances Mc Monagle, Anagary; also to all the relatives and friends.
