Glenties Notes 6th August 2009

New Arrival
Congratulations to Sinead and Kevin Brannigan, Lettermacaward on the birth recently of their second child, a baby sister for Áine. Sinead is a daughter of Johnny and Christine Boyle, Highlands Hotel and Kevin is a grandson of Maggie Keeney, Kilraine, Glenties.

Gallagher / Watters Wedding
On Saturday 25th July 2009 Breda Gallagher and Mike Watters were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Breda is a daughter of Phil and Nora Gallagher, Buncrubog, Glenties and Mike is a son of Paddy and Kathleen Watters, Kinvara, Co. Galway. Fr. Pat Prendergast assisted by Fr. Denis Quinn and Fr. Shane Gallagher officiated and concelebrated Nuptial Mass. Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Kathleen Alcorn and Carol Gallagher and her friend, Helena Bonner attended her. The bride’s niece, Sinead Mc Devitt was a junior bridesmaid. A friend of the groom, Garret Carragher was bestman. Des and Peter Watters, brothers of the groom were groomsmen and Paul Quinn, a nephew of the bride was a junior groomsman. Readings were by the bride’s sister, Margaret Mc Devitt and the groom’s brother, Gerard Watters. Ruth and Cathal Byrne, niece and nephew of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful. Nora Gallagher and Kathleen Watters, mothers of the bride and groom brought the Gifts to the Altar. The groom’s Godson, 2 year old, Ryan Watters presented the couple with a Horseshoe. Music and singing was by the Mc Elhinney sisters, Brenda and Siobhan and Cliona Henna. The reception was held in An Cúirt Hotel, Gweedore and the honeymoon is being spent in The Maldives and Dubai.

Glenties Afterschool
Congratulations to Dean Mc Devitt, Jennifer Furey and Megan Quinn Bonner, who won 1st Prize in their categories, for their entry to the ‘Colour My Dream Competition’ sponsored by Donegal County Childcare Committee, Ballybofey.

Community Employment Scheme
General workers are required for a Community Employment Scheme in the Glenties area, which is commencing on 28th September ’09. For more information contact 087-9695053.

Collection
The Annual Church Gate Collection in aid of the Co. Donegal Association of Parents and Friends of People with Intellectual Disability Ltd. will be taken up before all Masses next weekend.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Grace Quinn, Glassagh, Cloghan and formerly of Knockletragh, who died in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar on Monday 27th July 2009. Her remains were brought to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, Glenties on Tuesday. Burial took place after Requiem Mass on Wednesday morning.

Bingo
The winners at the Tuesday Night Bingo in the Community Centre last week were – Donal Brennan won the Jackpot of € 400. Margaret Brennan, Breege Gallagher, Kate Carron, Margaret Gillespie, M. Mc Geehan, Eileen Gallagher, Aggie O’Sullivan, Anne Byrne, M. Gallagher and Kathleen Griffin won €100 each. C. Mc Carron, Bernadette Martin, Cathy Connell, Nellie Doherty, Cathy Connell, Marian Ward, Gracie O’Hara and Pauline Mac Aodhain won €50 each.
