Glenties Notes on 19th February 2007

Glenties Afterschool are looking for some green and white knitting wool.  If you have some, could you please drop it into the AfterschoolBuilding on the Glen Road.  Thank You.

Naomh Chonaill GAA Club are having a registration night in the clubhouse on Friday 23rd February between 8.00p.m. and 9.00p.m.  Membership fee for the year is

E 25.  There is an option of an annual subscription of E 100, which would entitle the member to be included in the Weekly Lotto for a year.  All old and new members are welcome.

A Ceili Sets and Barn Dance will be held in the Highlands Hotel Glenties on Saturday 3rd March from 9.00p.m. – 12 Midnight.  Music is by Martin Doogan.  Refreshments will be served.

A 4-week Patchwork Craft Class begins on Tuesday 27th February in the ComprehensiveSchool, Glenties from 7.30p.m. – 9.30p.m.  If you are interested in booking a place please contact Anne at 086 3791621 before tomorrow, Friday 23rd February.

If you would like a Morning of Relaxation for Mind and Body come to the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Tuesday 27th February from 10.00a.m. – 12 noon.  All welcome. 

Congratulations to Olivia and Eamon Oates, Sligo on the birth recently of their first child, a baby girl – Erin Gracie.  Olivia is a daughter of Una and Christy Hegarty, Mullantyboyle, Glenties.

The death took place in LetterkennyHospital on Sunday11th February 2007 of Packie Boyle, GweebarraBridge, Lettermacaward.  His remains were brought to Derries, Glenties for waking later that evening and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Tuesday morning.  Fr. Paul Gallagher celebrated RequiemMass.  Readings were by nieces Martina Rodgers and Kathleen Mc Groarty.  The Gifts were brought to the Altar by granddaughters, Melissa and Sharon Browne.  Music and singing was by Sr. Immaculate and Nora Gallagher.  Burial took place in the New Graveyard, Glenties.  Packie is survived by his wife, Nan, daughter, Anne Browne, sons, John and James, brother, Jimmy, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.  He was predeceased by his son Packie in 1979.  His brother, Eugene, sisters, Mary Hanlon and Nora Boyle also predeceased him.

The death took place in The Community Hospital, Killybegs on Friday 16th February 2007 of Peter Connaghan, Lugnagillew, Glenties.  His remains were brought to his nephew, Jimmy Connaghan’s home in Lacklea on Saturday and to the Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Sunday morning.  Fr. Paul Gallagher C.C. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass at 12 noon.  Readings were by his grandniece, Anne Browne.   Burial took place in Ardara Graveyard.  Peter is survived by one sister, Annie, Ardara, two nephews and a niece, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Three brothers and a sister predeceased him.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Rodgie Mc Monagle, Tuam, formerly of Fintown and Straboy, Glenties, who died in University Hospital, Galway last week.  His remains came to St. Colmcille’s Church, Fintown on Friday evening.  Burial took place in the adjoining Graveyard after Requiem Mass on Sunday.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Patrick, Hugh and James O’ Donnell, Gortnasillagh, Glenties on the death of their sister Margaret Mc Greanra, Laconnell, Ardara, which took place in the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny on Saturday 17th February 2007; also to her family and to all her relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Robbie Knox, Belfast who had been living in Glenties for a number of years, who died suddenly at his residence on Main Street last week.

An E.C.D.L. Ordinary course (V.E.C. Certified) will commence on March 15th 2007 from 9.30a.m. – 11.30a.m. in Glenties Community Centre…. 7 Modules – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Databases, Internet, E-mail and Office I.T.  Duration of course is 30 weeks and the cost is E 350.  Deposit secures place and payment can be made in instalments.

An E. C.D.L. Advanced course will commence on the same date, same venue from 12 Noon – 4.30p.m…..4 Modules – Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases and Presentations.  Cost for this course is E 650.  Deposit secures place and payment can be made in instalments.  For booking and more details contact 086 3961533 or 087 6325069 for both courses.
