Glenties Notes on August 31st 2002

The death took place after a short illness, in Letterkenny Hospital, on Tuesday 20th August 2002 of Paddy Gildea, Stranaglough, Glenties. His remains were brought to the home of Thomas Gildea, Meenalargan later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Wednesday evening. Fr. Pat Prendergast P.P. Glenties celebrated Requiem Mass. Readings were by Louise and Giles Gildea, relatives of Paddy’s. Music was by Sr. Immaculata on the organ. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Paddy was the last surviving member of the family of Ned and Cassie Gildea, Glenmakennif, Glenties. His brother, Hugh died about sixteen years ago. Sincere sympathy is extended to his cousins, other relatives and friends.

Congratulations to the winners of the recent Fishing Competition held on Lough Finn, Fintown on Sunday 18th August 2002. Results were; 1st—Danny Kavanagh, Convoy – 200Euro. 2nd—John O’ Donnell, Dungloe – 125 Euro. 3rd—Hugh Duffy, Loughanure – 75 Euro. Cumann Iascairí Bhaile Na Finne wish to thank sincerely Martin Lawless of Baile Árd Teo. for their generous sponsorship of the competition. The next competition is on Sunday 1st September ’02 from 12.00 noon until 6.00p.m.
