Glenties Notes on January 30th 2001

Mary Mc Geehan, Letterkenny, died in her sister, Philomena’s home in Stranorlar on Saturday 27th January 2001. She was waked there and on Monday 29th her remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church Glenties. Her nephew, Fr. Paul Mc Geehan, C.C. Drumkeen, assisted by Fr. John Mc Loone, Fr. Denis Quinn, Fr. Kieran Mc Ateer, Fr. Gerard Cunningham and Fr. Nigel Ó Gallachóir celebrated Requiem Mass. Mary was buried with her parents, Neil and Annie Mc Geehan in the New Cemetery, Glenties. Her mother was Molloy from The Rock, Glenties and her father was from Glenleighan, Fintown. Mary had a great love for Glenties as she spent a good part of her life here. The Mc Geehan family were regular visitors to their aunts, Mary and Bridget Molloy on The Rock and Mary was a pupil of the Mc Devitt Institute and later worked for many years in the Post Office in Glenties. Sincere sympathy is extended to her sisters, Bried, Strasallagh, Glenties, Philomena, Stranorlar, Una, Dublin, nieces, nephews, all her relatives and many friends. Her only brother, Paddy and her sister, Nancy predeceased her.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Fr. Pat Prendergast, our Parish Priest on the death of his brother, Charles, Letterkenny, which took place on Monday 29th January.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Anne Mc Glynn, Scoil Mhuire, on the death recently of her grandmother, Mary Moy, Cloghan, Glenfin.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Marguerite Mc Loone, Lower Main Street, Glenties on the death recently of her grandmother, Mary Mc Hugh, Carntullagh, Bruckless.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Bried Melly, Strassallagh, Glenties on the death of her sister, Mary Mc Geehan, Letterkenny which took place on Saturday last.

Aerobics Classes will take place in the Highlands Hotel on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 9.30pm. for five weeks. The first session will commence on Tuesday 30th January. Fee for the five-week course is £35.00.

Ceilí Classes will take place in the Limelight, Glenties for eight Sundays from 6.30pm. until 8.00pm. The first class is on Sunday 4th February.

Applications are invited for a Basic Computer Course, which will also include research on Local Heritage. This is a Local Training Initiative Programme, sponsored by FÁS. The course is due to commence in early February. Call 075-45010 for further details.

A Life in the Spirit Seminar will begin on Monday 19th February, at 8pm. in the Church of Mary Immaculate, Stranorlar; and run for seven weeks. A bus will leave Mc Guinness’ at 7.00pm.

Congratulations to Sister Immaculata who will celebrate the Golden Jubilee of her Profession on Saturday 3rd February. This is a very special occasion for the parish of Glenties and everyone is invited to join in a Mass of Thanksgiving, which will be celebrated at 5.00pm. on Saturday evening.

Congratulations to Johnny Rodgers and Pat Walsh who won the Laghey Pairs Bowling Tournament.
