Glenties Notes on June 24th 2004

Congratulations to Joseph Bonner, Ashbourne and formerly of Mill Road, Glenties who was elected to Meath County Council as an Independent candidate. Joseph is a son of Josie and the late James Bonner, Mill Road, Glenties.

Congratulations to Maureen and Richard Mackey, Cork on the birth recently of their third child, a baby brother for Callum and Eoin. Maureen is a daughter of Breid and the late Neil Breslin, Glen Road, Glenties.

The Annual Franciscan Pilgrimage to Knock takes place next Sunday 27th June. A bus will be leaving Glenties at 9.00a.m. For bookings please ring Mc Geehan coaches at 9546150.

The Graveyard Mass is Glenties this year is on Sunday 18th July at 3.00p.m. The Graveyard Mass in Edeninfagh is on Sunday 8th August at 3.00p.m.

The annual Glenties Parish Church Dance takes place in the Highlands Hotel on Friday 9th July. Music is by Cannon & Ramsey Band. Dancing is from 10.00p.m. until 1.00a.m. Admission is 5 Euro and tickets are on sale at Kee’s Butchers.

Councillor Terence Slowey wishes to thank the people of Glenties and the surrounding areas for the great help and support given to him on his recent election to Donegal County Council. He assures you that he will continue to work as before for you and your community.

Following representations by Councillor Terence Slowey, Glenties Library is to be refurbished and will reopen later this year. The Acting Assistant Librarian has informed Councillor Slowey that when the refurbishing works are completed new shelving will be installed and new stock will also be provided.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Mick O’ Donnell, Dublin and formerly of O’Donnell’s Hotel, Glenties (now The Highlands), who died in Dublin on Wednesday 16th June 2004. Mick was a regular visitor to Glenties until recently.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Charlie Mooney, Doohill, Ardara, who died in Dungloe Hospital on Friday 18th June2004 and who was buried in Ardara on Sunday. Charlie lived for a number of years at Church Road, Glenties.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Mary Craig, Buncrubog, Glenties who died last Friday 18th June.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Gerard Mc Dwyer, Derries, Glenties, on the death in England of his brother Conal last Saturday 19th June; also to all the relatives and friends.

A Barn / Céilí Dance takes place in the Community Centre, Glenties on Sunday 11th July in aid of Woodville Unit Garden Fund, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Stranorlar. Music is by Martin Doogan and dancing is from 10.00p.m. until 1.00a.m. Admission is 6 Euro and supper is included.
